The Opportunity

We are looking for a Consultant to join our team and play a key role in growing Urban Equation’s Sustainability Strategy & Implementation Advisory practice by advising on sustainable real-estate solutions across North America. The successful candidate will establish client relationships and lead sustainable real‑estate projects, providing the technical analysis, business modelling, and project management needed to deliver holistic, integrated, sustainability solutions for communities, buildings, and governments.

Working closely withdevelopers, policymakers, and industry leaders, the Consultant will drivebest-in-class sustainability solutions, financial feasibility assessments, and technical implementation strategiesthat guide clients toward achieving low-carbon, high-performance developments.

Key Responsibilities

Specifically, you will:

  • Deliver best in class sustainability services to support sustainable community planning, high-performance building design and business advisory services (Net Zero, Net Positive);
  • Collaborate with and lead design teams to integrate and achieve high performance buildings objectives);
  • Lead market research, engagement and strategy development across various sustainability and real estate projects.
  • Plan, facilitate and deliver sustainability workshops, design charettes and client meetings.
  • Prepare business models that consider lifecycle costing
  • Synthesize sustainability opportunities to develop clear strategic recommendations.
  • Interpret regulatory changes, assess client risks and opportunities, and draft policy recommendations.
  • Support the delivery of high-quality consulting services, managing scope elements and client satisfaction independently.
  • Facilitate green building certifications (LEED, OPL, Green Globes, BOMA BEST, WELL);
  • Facilitate collaboration across project teams and stakeholders to align strategies with sustainability and financial goals.
  • Drive proposal writing, strategic scoping, and pricing models for new business pursuits.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on sustainability and energy related concepts, strategies and design, such as site related issues, stormwater management, rainwater/greywater harvesting, water use reduction, envelope thermal performance, high efficiency building system, renewable systems, waste management, material selection, thermal comfort, ventilation and indoor air quality, daylighting, health and wellness, etc.;
  • Identify and develop sustainability and energy conservation measures including calculations to demonstrate benefits (Life cycle costing, energy and energy cost savings, incentives, emissions, ROI, etc.);
  • Develop clear and concise written reports that convey technical and business information, understanding of the client’s needs and objectives and recommendations to meet these objectives;
  • Contribute to proposals and various client management activities;
  • Present at industry events, contribute thought leadership, and represent UE in the market.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills:

  • 3–5 years of experience in sustainability, real estate, or planning consulting.
  • Undergraduate degree in planning, environmental science, business, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience analyzing sustainable, financial and real estate-related data and translating insights into strategic, business, and financial recommendations.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to contribute to multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and ensure quality deliverables.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders across the public and private sectors.
  • Experience delivering certification programs such as LEED, WELL, TGS and others.
  • Understanding of embodied carbon and life cycle assessments.
  • Understanding of sustainability in real estate and the development industry in Canada.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, visual, and written formats.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and managing components of client deliverables.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian development industry and sustainability standards.
  • Familiarity with project management software and data visualization tools is an asset.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., LEED AP) are considered assets.
  • Interest or experience in real estate processes, operations, and/or asset management.
  • Proven leadership experience in client engagement and project delivery.
