Job summary

Meridian Development Corp. in Delta, BC, is seeking a full-time Safety Officer for a hybrid role (50% site safety coordination, 50% carpentry/labour) on our Delta project.

You will promote a strong safety culture, conduct inspections and audits, lead toolbox talks, and support daily site operations with crews and trades.

The ideal candidate has Level 2 Safety Officer designation and solid OH&S knowledge, with experience on residential, hotel, or commercial construction.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 - Safety Officer designation or equivalent safety certification preferred.
  • Previous experience on construction sites in a safety and/or labour role.
  • Strong knowledge of OH&S regulations and construction safety practices.
  • Previous experience on residential, hotel, and/or commercial construction projects is considered an asset.
  • Previous hands-on construction carpenter/labour experience.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Steel-toed boots required.
  • WHMIS and Fall Protection certifications preferred.
  • Additional safety certifications and equipment operator tickets are considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across construction sites
  • Conducting regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits
  • Monitoring compliance with company safety policies and OH&S regulations
  • Leading site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
  • Assisting with incident investigations, reporting, and corrective action plans
  • Supporting site supervisors and workers with safe work procedures and best practices
  • Maintaining safety documentation, reports, certifications, and compliance records
  • Assisting with general labour tasks including material handling, site cleanup, and site organization
  • Loading, unloading, and moving construction materials throughout the job site
  • Supporting carpenters, trades, and supervisors with daily construction activities
  • Safely operating hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment as required
  • Identifying potential hazards on site and responding appropriately
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment

What You Will Be Doing

This role is a hybrid position, consisting of approximately 50% site safety coordination and 50% general construction Carpenter/Labourer responsibilities.As a Safety Officer/Carpenter/Labourer, you will play a key role in maintaining a strong culture of safety while also supporting daily construction operations on site. You will work closely with site supervisors, trades, subcontractors, and labour crews to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
