What you will be doing:
You will be trusted to keep projects on time and on budget you will make the following valuable contributions in these three functional areas:
Management
Coordinate and communicate with Project Managers, Clients, municipalities and office support staff on matters pertaining to the design and construction of various projects.
Chair and lead site construction meetings, pre-construction meetings, pre-tender meetings, shallow utility meetings, etc.
Mentor junior staff in construction monitoring.
Design/Tender Preparation
Complete quantity take offs (including CADD earthworks) and cost estimates for various design options and tendering.
Coordinate geotechnical and environmental site assessment studies.
Complete pipeline and utility crossing agreements and coordinating hydrovac operations.
Prepare and coordinate contract documentation.
Administer tenders and analyze tender results providing recommendations tender award.
Construction
Completing construction schedule estimates for various transportation projects.
Administering transportation construction contracts in the field, including:
Ensuring compliance to contract specifications by way of monitoring all site activities during pre-construction, construction and post- construction.
Documenting site activities including preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports, or other reports as required by the client.
Coordinating/reviewing geotechnical/material test results, testing invoices, other testing for compliance and recommend for payment to Project Managers.
Preparing and submitting Progress Payment Certificates and Change Orders to Project Managers for review and approval.
Preparing, coordinating and attending all CCC and FAC inspections, drafting deficiency lists and preparing the certificates required for submittal to the municipalities and coordinating CCC and FAC repair work.
Coordination and communication with Project Managers, Clients, municipalities and office support staff on matters pertaining to design and construction.
Organizing and chairing/leading site construction meetings, pre-construction meetings, pre-tender meetings, shallow utility meetings, etc.
Mentoring junior staff in construction monitoring.
What you must have:
Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma or related education
A minimum of 7 to 10 years of transportation construction field experience. Desirable past experience as Contract Inspector, Administrator, Project Coordinator, Project Manager or comparable role.
Valid driver’s license with the ability to provide project oversight in rural locations throughout Alberta
Experience with writing and preparing construction specifications
Demonstrated ability to foster strong working relationships with various contractors and partners on site
Interest in and committed to having a strong presence on projects
Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to address clients concerns and to communicate clearly with diverse ranges of clients, contractors and other internal multidisciplinary professionals
Self-starter, motivated and team player with ability to work on a variety of different projects
Strong skills in organization, working under pressure, ability to multi-task, ability to meet deadlines, and working as a member of project teams.
Nice to have:
Experience on Alberta Transportation and/or City of Edmonton projects would be considered an asset.
Experience in Topographic survey coordination, base plan preparation and review including experience in survey layout of grading, storm, sanitary, water and surface works.
Salary/Rate Range: $90,000 – $120,000
