Job description

You are an experienced Construction Manager of 15+ years, who will play a key role in the delivery of a rail infrastructure project in Bowmanville. Leveraging your experience and expertise, you'll implement project plans, prioritize safety and quality, and delegate tasks effectively to your team.

You will be required to work out of the downtown Toronto office and transition to the site office in Durham region by mid-2025.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Leads by example in health, safety, and environmental throughout the project, ensuring that site safety measures meet or exceed the parameters set out by corporate safety manual, Workers’ Compensation Board or any other authorities.
  • Develop and implement project scheduling in conjunction with project team to meet milestone and completion dates.
  • Provides clear direction to team members and distributes workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities.
  • Prepares field change orders to be signed by project owner or representative when requested.
  • Reviews subtrade/supplier invoices against the field purchase orders and reports any discrepancies to the Project Manager or the accounting department.
  • Hires and manages hourly employees as required to complete the project in consultation with the Construction/Project Managers.
  • Works with coordinators/engineers to submit RFI’s as required for clarification of scopes.
  • Supervise design activities carried out by third-party consultants, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Review and approve design documentation, resolving design-related issues promptly.
  • Ensures that the quality of materials and workmanship meet or exceed standards identified in approval documents.
  • Maintains and tracks billings, reports and projections and implements trade awards and construction work within financial targets and constraints.
  • Review design and construction documents for constructability and value engineering and provide feedback to client.

Qualifications

  • 12-15 years+ of civil construction experience as a Superintendent is required.
  • Project experience working on highways, bridges, roads, and other structural infrastructure projects is required.
  • Experience working on large scale infrastructure project for a General Contractor in Canada.
  • Prior experience in assisting with design and construction in an active rail corridor; specifically on structural portions of heavy civil projects including but not limited to steel, concrete, columns, beams, and all other associated elements for buildings, bridges and other structures.
  • Completion of post-secondary education in civil engineering or a related field is required.
  • Professional Engineer license in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Design-Build or Collaborative Contract models is an asset.
  • Demonstrated exposure to project controls, progress tracking and reporting is essential.
  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Word and Excel; Heavy Bid and Primavera would be preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form.

Working Conditions

  • Site & Office based position. You will be required to work out of the downtown Toronto head office from Monday to Friday until project is in construction phase, mid-2025. Once on site, you will be required to work full-time on site in the Durham Region.
  • Occasional travel to downtown Toronto office will be required for the duration of the project.
