Job summary

MCW Custom Energy Solutions in Winnipeg is seeking a self-motivated On-Site Construction Manager to join our office. This hands-on role offers exposure to fast-paced engineering projects and direct coordination with the Project Manager, clients, and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate has a post-secondary engineering or building technology credential, 5+ years of related experience in commercial/institutional construction, strong OH&S knowledge, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology or related technical field
  • P.Eng., CET, or PMP designation considered an asset
  • Trade Qualification Ticket in electrical or mechanical related construction trade
  • Ideally 5+ years of related work experience
  • Experience in commercial/institutional construction, including high security environments, is an asset
  • Working knowledge of OH&S regulations and related construction codes

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate on-site construction activities with the Project Manager to ensure deliverables and tasks are completed on schedule
  • Supervise and expedite subcontractor work to maintain progress and quality
  • Coordinate access and minimize disruption for occupants of occupied spaces
  • Ensure work aligns with project scope, schedule and specifications
  • Assist with tender and bid reviews and identify required modifications
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ensure permits, documentation and procedures are in place prior to mobilization
  • Keep engineer of record/Project Manager informed of field changes
  • Provide construction administration and act as primary project contact
  • Coordinate inspections by consultants/Measure Managers
  • Identify non-conforming work and resolve technical issues in a timely fashion
  • Act as Construction Safety Manager for the project duration
  • Assist MCW Engineering with RFIs, revisions, change orders, field reviews and close-out packages
  • Prepare project status reports and supporting documentation
  • Investigate and resolve issues with MCW support to maintain progress

Job description

MCW Custom Energy Solutions, is currently seeking a self-motivated, hardworking On-Site Construction Manager, to join our Winnipeg Office. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is interested in further developing their career and is looking to gain valuable hands‑on work experience in a fast‑paced engineering consultancy.

Responsibilities:

The Construction Manager will be responsible for:

  • Working with the Project Manager to ensure project deliverables and tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Coordinating all on-site construction activities.
  • Supervising and expediting subcontractor work to maintain progress and quality.
  • Liaising with the owner and building occupants to coordinate access, address construction issues, and minimize disruption in occupied areas.
  • Ensuring work is executed in accordance with the project scope, schedule, and specifications.
  • Supporting the Project Manager with tender and bid reviews, including identifying any required modifications.
  • Interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ensuring all required permits, documentation, and procedures are in place prior to mobilization.
  • Keeping the engineer of record and/or Project Manager informed of any material design changes identified or implemented in the field or through construction administration activities.
  • Providing construction administration services and serving as the primary point of contact for project‑related questions, requests, shutdowns, and scheduling.
  • Coordinating inspections by consultants and/or Measure Managers.
  • Identifying non‑conforming work and ensuring technical issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Acting as the Construction Safety Manager for the duration of the project, ensuring compliance and maintaining required documentation.
  • Assisting the MCW Engineering team with RFIs, contemplated revisions, change orders, field reviews, pricing reviews, and close‑out packages, and preparing project status reports and supporting documentation as required.
  • Investigate and resolve as they arise, with support from the MCW team, to maintain project progress and quality.
Education
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Technology or other relevant technical diploma is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), C.E.T., and/or PMP designation considered an asset.
  • Trade Qualification Ticket in electrical or mechanical related construction trade.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Ideally 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience working in the commercial / institutional construction, including high securityenvironments, is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage construction productivity and safety.
  • Working knowledge of OH&S regulations and related construction codes.
  • Supervisory Training, Asbestos Awareness, Fall Protection and First Aid certifications are considered assets.

Bona fide Job Requirement:

This role will require a minimum of Reliability Clearance under the Contract Security Program administered by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). As a result, successful security clearance will be a condition of employment.
