Mazzei Electric started in Nanaimo, BC in . We started as a small family run company that focused on commercial service contracts. We now have a variety of multi-family residential, commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects across the province, complimented by our service departments that offer residential and commercial service and maintenance. We currently operate across Vancouver Island, throughout the Okanagan, and in Northern BC.

This position will be offered a competitive salary of approximately $,.00 to $,.00 per year, plus a 20% target bonus. We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our Nanaimo Projects Team . This role reports directly to the Director of Operations and will be based out of Nanaimo, BC .

As Construction Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects from inception to completion. Your focus will be on overseeing all projects north of the Malahat , ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY :

  • Fully support and promote Mazzei Electric’s core values of Safety, Innovation, Relationships and Trust.
  • Ensuring project managers achieve all operational performance targets, including project timelines; cost and revenue targets; labour KPI’s; margin; safety; and, environmental compliance.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and mentorship to Project Managers including setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the Project Managers.
  • Overseeing pre-construction meetings to ensure successful handoff from estimating to field.
  • Conducting post project reviews to determine areas for future improvement.
  • Participate in progress meetings as requested.
  • Maintain client satisfaction and promptly aid in resolving any concerns.
  • Work in tandem with the Director of Operations, Director of Human Resources & Safety and Health and Safety Manager in ensuring consistency of processes and policies in the field.
  • Maintaining effective and productive customer and vendor relations and assisting with cash flow management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and recommend policy changes as needed.
  • Ensuring timely completion of projects and build client trust, while avoiding unnecessary loss or penalties.
  • Managing both internal and external risk within the project’s lifetime, such as poor planning designs and government policies, which directly or indirectly affect the project.
  • Procuring and allocating resources to avoid any unnecessary delays.
  • Coordinating tasks across all sites to ensure uniformity upon project completion.
  • Oversee manpower allocation and planning, ensuring workers are being utilized for their strengths, and mentored and trained on their weaknesses.
  • Review, negotiate, and manage contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Overseeing all contractual aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and mitigating risks.
  • Monitor contract performance and ensure adherence to timelines, milestones, and quality standards. Identify and mitigate risks associated with contracts, including identifying potential conflicts, changes in scope, or budgetary issues. Maintain accurate contract records and documentation for future reference and audit purposes.
  • In conjunction with Director of Operations; Budget, strategize and monitor regional revenue across all project and ensure monthly, quarterly and annual revenue targets are met or exceeded.
  • Maintaining strict adherence to relevant industry and Mazzei Electric safety standards.
  • Additional duties as required

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Engage in business development activities to grow Mazzei Electric’s market share in the region, including development and execution of a business plan to grow the Service business in the region.
  • Develop / maintain network of professional relationships within our industry.
  • Participate in monthly companywide Business Development meetings and initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • A minimum of 10 years progressive electrical project experience in projects in excess of $3M
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience providing leadership and mentorship to a team
  • Red-Seal Journeyperson Electrician and FSR required
  • Some formal training in business and / or project management would be an asset
  • Strong understanding of financial processes and experience managing contracts and budgets
  • Strong leadership, organizational, decision making, problem solving and customer service skills
  • Experience in project pre-planning, manpower allocation, and scheduling management
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience using Project Management software, Accounting or ERP software
  • Strong working knowledge of industry specific software including Bluebeam, Accubid, as well as a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Highly experienced in the tasks of project administration and management including RFI’s, submittals, change order management, progress billings
  • Excellent knowledge of industry products, practices and standards
  • Strong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task and prioritize a high work load
  • Ability to determine potential risks while devising proactive ways to solve them
  • Ability to welcome feedback and use it to improve the quality of production
