Civeo Canada is seeking a results-driven Construction Manager for our Western Canada projects. Based in the field, you will report to the Sr.

Director of Construction and lead daily site operations, coordinating trades and subcontractors for transportable industrial accommodations and modular structures. You will develop and manage budgets, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, review scopes, plan daily work, and mentor field staff.

Job Summary

Civeo Canada is recruiting for a result driven and customer service-oriented Construction Manager for our projects in Western Canada. Based in the field the incumbent will report to the Sr. Director of Construction. Construction Manager is responsible for all daily site construction operations within the assigned geographical area and/or project. Construction Manager will manage the activities of all construction trades and sub-contractors involved in the installation of transportable industrial accommodations and other types of factory-built structures. The incumbent will provide support for the Project Management team and the Director of Construction in organizing, coordinating, budgeting, supervising, and evaluating the activities of construction projects from early development to completion. Construction Manager is a committed member of the team, supports concepts of continuous improvement and is adaptable to changing roles within the function. This is a permanent, full-time, salary position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise activities of construction crew to ensure compliance with the OHS, environmental and labor legislation.
  • Supervise construction activities to ensure crew compliance with company policies, standards and procedures.
  • Conduct Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and safety analysis. Take a leading role in daily safety meetings and preparation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with team members.
  • In conjunction with Safety team, conduct Hazard Assessments including providing input for Safe Work Procedures and Safe Work Practices (SWPs).
  • Provide support to the Project Manager in developing and managing the operational budget for the construction project and ensure that established performance targets, such as financial, quality, safety and labor are achieved.
  • Review the Scope of Work.
  • Plan the daily work of construction team.
  • Control access to the job site.
  • Ensure construction cost control, which includes organizing the work site to minimize the risk of loss or damage.
  • Ensure that completed work meets or exceeds project specifications and Quality standards. Manage Quality Assurance programs and develop reporting procedures designed to ensure products and services are consistent with the established standards.
  • Conduct work force planning and approve all new hires, oversee employee training in the use of operational techniques and/or new equipment, systems and processes.
  • Provide new hire and departmental orientation to construction workers.
  • Manage the assigned work crew including planning work schedules with focus on meeting project needs.
  • Act as a resource and business knowledge center for field Supervisors, Foremen and all trades.
  • Provide leadership support and staff development opportunities to the team. Identify workplace training and development opportunities.
  • Motivate workers to achieve high performance.
  • Deliver results while acting with ethics and integrity.
  • Resolve workplace conflicts. Deal effectively with people on the job site by utilizing highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Support culture of continuous improvement. Review and support suggestions for improvements and generate new ideas.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson certification in the related construction trade or equivalent is an asset.
  • Construction management certification or equivalent preferred
  • Must have relevant industry safety tickets and supervisory training i.e., Leadership for Safety Excellence, Better Supervision, Non-Conformance Reporting, CSTS, Electrical Worker Course ESTS, Lockout Tag-out (Energy Isolation), Ground Disturbance Level II, First Aid, Principles of Health & Safety Management (ACSA), Legislation Awareness (ACSA), Substance Abuse Prevention (ACSA), Confined Space (OSSA), Fall Protection (OSSA), Hoisting and Rigging, Elevated Work Platform (OSSA).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean 5-year driver’s abstract
  • Minimum 10 years of proven construction management experience in commercial or modular construction
  • Focus on safety, quality of work and environmental awareness.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial and federal building codes, OHS and other workplace compliance legislation.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office Suite.
  • Great communication, interpersonal and coordination skills.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of analyzing project scope, cost and schedules.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a project team.
  • Superior leadership abilities with a demonstrated record of accomplishment of dealing successfully with internal and external customers.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic and conflict resolution skills.
  • Superb facilitation of meetings, feedback sessions and briefings in order to create consensus among stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: must be able to work on a rotational basis in the remote areas in camps for long periods.
  • Considerable travel of a short duration and work in camps is required while rotating between various construction projects in Western Canada.
