Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join our Municipal and Transportation Design team in Bowmanville. As a Construction Inspector, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction activities on municipal construction projects.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Engineering site inspection on municipal construction projects for quality control and adherence with applicable provincial standards, engineering design and technical specifications.
  2. Document construction site activities (keeping a detailed daily report log, taking photos, performing survey checks, and recording as-built conditions) and identify and monitor deficiencies.
  3. Provide problem resolution and field solutions with respect to unforeseen construction issues and participate in construction progress meetings.
  4. Arrange on-site geotechnical investigations and material testing (for concrete, granular materials, and asphalt) and coordinate with Engineering for specialist inspections.
  5. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act on construction sites with authority to issue stop work orders; ensure proper Ministry and project procedures are followed to ensure public/pedestrian safety.
  6. Liaise with clients, regulatory inspectors, various utility companies, residents, and other stakeholders as required.

Qualifications
  1. Minimum 5 years of related experience in municipal/civil engineering construction, with direct experience in linear infrastructure.
  2. Effective communicator possessing demonstrated skills in dealing with other staff, contractors, and the public, in matters arising from construction projects.
  3. Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  4. MTO Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and access to a personal vehicle.
  5. Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) for Municipal projects.
  6. Demonstrated skills in the use of computer utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, etc.).
  7. AutoCAD (asset).
  8. RCSI designation an asset.
