Job summary

GS Construction is seeking a seasoned finance leader to report to the CEO and oversee all accounting operations in a hands-on role. You will manage a small team, own job costing and WIP, and drive AI-enabled improvements across reporting, forecasting, and controls.

You will partner with leadership to provide clear financial insight, strengthen internal controls, and support budgeting, reforecasting, and strategic decision-making for our water, sewer, and land development projects in Alberta.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive finance experience, incl. 3–5 years as a controller leading an accounting team, with recent construction/civil infrastructure exposure.
• Direct experience managing job costing, WIP reporting, and forecasting on project-based work.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline finance work, with sound judgment on data security.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close and internal financial reporting, review high-level journal entries (capital asset additions, amortization, accruals, reclassifications).
• Lead and develop a small accounting team with clear direction and accountability.
• Partner with the CEO to drive AI adoption across finance, automating invoice processing, reconciliations, reporting and forecasting while maintaining strong controls.
