Job summary

Ontario NDP is seeking a Constituency Assistant to support the MPP in Hamilton Centre. The role handles casework, outreach, and communications with constituents, organizations, and media. Applicants should be fluent in English and have strong writing and organizational skills.

The position is part-time (20 hours/week) and permanent, with duties spanning event planning, research gathering, and social media management to promote the MPP's activities within the riding.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the NDP and Canadian labour movement.
• Understanding of Equity and Diversity frameworks as they apply to the role.
• Ability to write articles and reports, meet deadlines, and maintain organized records.
• Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of constituents.
• Excellent computer skills including social media platforms.

Responsibilities

• Organize events, hearings, meetings, and press conferences.
• Respond to constituent questions and concerns.
• Prepare, gather, maintain, and compile research material for communication with constituents and organizations.
• Respond to requests for research or information from constituents.
• Monitor local media to support the Member's media presence and prepare columns or press materials.
• Develop social media presence and manage online activity to enhance the Member's visibility; assist with engagement.
• Keep informed on policy areas and liaise with local groups and stakeholders.
• Handle enquiries, solve problems, and advocate for constituents (casework).
• Contact constituents by phone, mail, and in person; liaise with senior government personnel and external organizations.
• Prepare all documentation related to casework; travel across the riding for outreach and events.
