Job summary

PAL Aerospace is seeking a seasoned Configuration Management Specialist to join our team. You will establish and maintain configuration baselines for aircraft, mission systems, software, and related data across development, modification, deployment, and sustainment, coordinating with programs, engineering, quality, and supply chain.

• ISO 10007 knowledge is an asset.
• AS9100 familiarity is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain configuration systems; document processes; provide training.
• Manage technical configuration baselines for aircraft, mission systems, software, and data across lifecycle.
• Maintain PBS and CIs including identifiers, hierarchy, and baseline release rules.
• Support change impact analysis within PAL Aerospace change management.
• Manage Configuration Control Boards and enact changes as directed.
• Manage design and airworthiness data under configuration control (drawings, ICDs, software versions, manuals).
• Coordinate CM requirements with suppliers and subcontractors; flow-down and incorporation of supplier changes.
• Plan and conduct configuration verification/audits (functional/physical, data, implementation).
• Provide configuration status accounting and metrics to leadership and customers.
• Review and recommend CM tools and processes.
• Provide training and mentoring on CM services.
• Contribute to QA and Technical Records processes; support continuous improvement.

PAL Aerospace is proud to partner with SkyAlyne , the prime contractor for theFuture Aircrew Training ( FAcT ) Program—Canada’s next-generation training initiative for theRoyal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). This transformative program will redefine how Canada trains its pilots,Air Combat Systems Officers (ACSOs), andAirborne Electronic Sensor Operators (AES Ops)through a powerful blend of live flying, advanced simulation, and classroom instruction.

This role will report to the Vice President of Systems Engineering from any of our offices in Ottawa ON, Vaughan ON, Halifax NS, or St. John’s NL.

The Configuration Management Specialist will work closely with the Programs, Engineering, Systems Engineering & Integration, Technical Services, IT, Supply Chain Management, and other non-technical PAL departments like Human Resources and Security to establish a baseline and maintain the configuration of the assets and services during program execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining configuration systems for Programs, ensuring processes and procedures are well documented, and internal training has been developed, including defining/updating Configuration Management Processes and Procedures.
• Manage and maintain the technical configuration baselines for aircraft, mission systems, software, support equipment, and associated technical data across development, modification, deployment, product management, and in-service sustainment.
• Maintain the product breakdown structure (PBS) and controlled configuration items (CIs), including hardware, software, firmware, interfaces, documents, and support data; establish unique identifiers, hierarchy, and baseline release rules.
• Support change impact analysis as part of the larger PAL Aerospace change management processes.
• Manage Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and enact changes as directed.
• Manage approved/released design and airworthiness data under configuration control, including drawings, specifications, ICDs, software version descriptions, manuals, ICA/AFMS supplements as applicable, and compliance evidence packages.
• Coordinate CM requirements with suppliers and subcontractors, including contractual flow down, baseline data acceptance, and incorporation of supplier changes into the PAL-controlled baseline.
• Plan and conduct configuration verification and audits, including functional/physical configuration audits, data audits, implementation audits, and re-baselining after modification, technical refresh , or service-life extension activities.
• Provide authoritative configuration status accounting and metrics to leadership, programs, engineering, systems, maintenance, and customers, including change aging, audit closure, baseline accuracy, and fleet embodiment status.
• Review and recommend CM tools, in addition to processes, procedures, etc.
• Ensure training and mentoring is provided to the organization on the Program’s CM services, concepts, policies, and procedures.
• Contribute to PAL’s QA and Technical Records processes.
• Support continuous improvement of processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years' experience in aerospace, engineering, or related field where configuration control is tightly managed.
• 5+ years' experience working in an Engineering or technical design environment.
• 5+ years’ experience in aerospace industry, knowledge of aircraft systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CM standards and systems engineering practice (e.g., INCOSE), including ISO 10007, SAE/EIA-649 family, and the five CM functions.
• Working knowledge of civil/military airworthiness change processes, especially Transport Canada CAR 521 and equivalent FAA/EASA Part 21 concepts for design changes and ICA.
• Experience controlling aircraft and mission-system baselines, including requirements, interfaces, drawings, software versions, part numbers, serial effectivity, and technical publications.
• Experience leading or facilitating CCBs and configuration audits in a cross-functional environment involving engineering, programs, quality, logistics, supply chain, and operations/maintenance.
• Experience with multi-disciplinary, high-performing system or product development teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in dealing with clients, internal and external stakeholders, senior management, and staff including both technical and non-technical individuals.
• Working knowledge of ISO 10007 is an asset.
• Desirable experience with AS9100/quality-system familiarity and documented-information/change-control discipline.

Incumbent must be able to obtain the required level of Government of Canada Personnel Security Clearanceand to be able to be approved for the Canadian Controlled Goods program.
