Job summary

Solotech in Ontario is seeking a System Designer to support the design and validation of customer AV systems. You will collaborate with the sales and operations teams, create BOMs, and prepare technical drawings for project execution.

The role requires a background in audiovisual systems, strong communication, and ability to work under tight schedules. Replacement position with competitive compensation in a dynamic AV environment.

Qualifications

3+ years in a similar system designer role or related field.
Knowledge of sound, lighting, control, video and videoconference systems.
Ability to interpret advanced single-line diagrams and electrical plans.

Responsibilities

Assist Sales in system design including BOM and bid support packages.
Survey sites and analyze client requirements, risks, and opportunities.
Validate equipment choices and design of custom solutions if needed.
Estimate labour, tools, and consumables for proposed jobs.
Create technical drawings (block diagrams, single-line, architectural).
Draft Scope of Work documents and coordinate with clients and sales reps.
Support Project Managers during project execution and handovers.
Provide technical explanations to Operations or clients as required.
Keep informed of new AV products and technologies.

Under the responsibility of the Montreal V&I system designer team leader, the system designer assists all employees of the department by supporting the representatives for the design and validation of customer systems, as well as the projects in the execution of their mandates. In addition to providing support to other members of the system design team.

Your day will look like this:

Assist the Sales department’s representatives in the system design of requested solutions from our clients through creation of a BOM or other bid support package ;

Participate in site visits to survey the proposed job and analyze requirements the client asked for and unseen potential impacts or options (risks or opportunities) ;

Perform the validation of equipment choices and systems conception (including any design of custom built solutions if required) ;

Evaluate the labour requirements for a proposed job, including any specialized equipment, tools, perishables, cabling, etc ;

Create technical drawings to explain, elucidate the scope of the potential project (block diagram, single-line, architectural, etc.) ;

Elaborate the Scope Of Work in a document ;

Meet and discuss with the client and the Sales rep. (As required) ;

Support the Project Managers and their team in the execution of their projects ;

Supporting the initial Sales to Operations kickoff handovers ;

Technical explanations or support of a designed system before and/or during implementation to the Operations team or client as required ;

Help ensure the technical compliance of the project deliverables ;

Keep yourself informed of new products and technologies in the audiovisual domain.

Your profile:

Bilingual: French & English

Background in Audiovisual, Project Management or a related experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position.

Knowledge of advanced practical and theoretical of the followings: Sound, lighting, control, video and videoconference ;

Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office ;

Be able to prepare, understand and interpret advanced single-line diagrams, construction and electrical elevation plans ;

Knowledge of the following software: Autocad 2010, MS Project, dimmers functionality, lighting configurator, lighting and audio console on PC;

Specialized software skills in sound and/or lighting of configurator DSP type, sound analysis, calibration ;

Strong ability in communication, knows how to provide information clearly and logically ;

Ability to work with tight schedules and under pressure ;

Demonstrate thoroughness and pay attention to details ;

Adapt to change easily ;

Good team spirit and collaboration ;

Well developed organisational skills ;

Ability to solve complicated problems ;

Ability to approach clients (internal and external);

Solid relational and interpersonal skills.

Solotechprovides a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position in accordance withOntario pay transparency requirements. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, location, experience, training, certifications, and internal equity. Final compensation will be determined at the time of hire. A reasonable estimate of the current yearly wage range is $86,582 to $115,442.
