THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Compliance and Technical Advisor, you will be instrumental in assessing accredited organizations’ compliance with the Safety Codes Act, its regulations, and approved Quality Management Systems. You’ll also help shape the future of compliance by contributing to risk-informed monitoring approaches. If you're an experienced Building Safety Codes Officer ready to bring your expertise into a broader system-wide role, we want to hear from you.
KEY RESPOSIBILITIES
Conduct compliance audits and related monitoring activities.
Analyze safety codes data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
Prepare audit reports and collaborate with colleagues to finalize recommendations.
Advise the Administrator of Accreditation based on audit findings and insights.
Support the design and enhancement of compliance monitoring processes and systems.
Serve as a subject matter expert in the building discipline to support Council programs and services.
Provide guidance to stakeholders in alignment with organizational policies and strategic goals.
WHAT YOU BRING
To be successful in this role you will need a certification as a Building Safety Codes Officer (Part 9, Part 3, HVAC) , or eligibility to obtain certification within 3 months, plus 5 years' experience as a Building Safety Codes Officer. You will also bring :
Advanced knowledge of the Safety Codes Act, National Building Code (Alberta Edition), and related legislation.
Background in the construction industry, with strong familiarity with permitting, inspections, and enforcement, including ability to interpret construction documents and inspection reports.
The ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions, building strong relationships and driving results.
A proactive, adaptable mindset to lead and support change in complex environments.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
Proficiency in preparing clear, concise, and well-structured reports for a variety of stakeholders.
Creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment to solve challenges and navigate sensitive matters.
Strong analytical skills to gather and interpret diverse information for well-informed decision-making.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and a willingness to learn new digital tools and platforms as needed.
A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.

WHAT WE OFFER
A competitive base salary that considers your education and experience. The range for this role is $90,000 to $135,000 .
