Job summary

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Ontario is seeking a Patient Care Attendant (PCA) to work with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, delivering safe, compassionate care to patients requiring long-term care support within an acute care setting.

The role requires Grade 12, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to work independently and in a team, and willingness to rotate 12-hour shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in healthcare, long-term care, or with seniors is an asset.
• Commitment to patient-centered care.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Physically capable of patient transfers, lifting, and supporting mobility.
• CPR and First Aid certification is considered an asset.
• Ability to work all shifts, including days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays.
• Willing to work the current 12-hour shift rotation.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal care, mobility, and comfort measures.
• Support patients with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation as directed by nursing staff.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable patient environment.
• Respond to patient call bells and requests in a timely manner.
• Assist with meal service and feeding support as required.
• Transport patients within the facility as directed.
• Support recreational and social activities that promote patient well-being.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to support individualized care plans.
• Adhere to organizational policies, infection prevention and control practices, and workplace safety requirements.
