Job summary

The Ottawa Safety Council (OSC) is seeking dedicated and community-minded individuals to join our team as School Crossing Guards for the 2026–2027 school year. In this vital role, you will help ensure the safety of children and other pedestrians at designated school crossings during peak school hours.

Shifts range from 40 minutes to 2 hours, with a minimum of 5 shifts per week Monday to Friday, and up to 2 shifts per day.

Qualifications

• Effective communication with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to stay attentive and calm during busy crossings.
• Capacity to follow safety procedures and wear required equipment.

Responsibilities

• Direct or escort pedestrians across the street, stopping traffic as necessary.
• Maintain focus and avoid disruptions while escorting students and pedestrians across the street.
• Communicate traffic, crossing rules, and other information to students and adults.
• Report unsafe student behaviour to school officials.
• Inspect your intersection daily and report any unsafe conditions.
