Job summary

Compass Communities in Saint John, NB, is seeking a Community Maintenance professional to join our team. This role reports to the Community Manager and ensures work orders are completed and common areas are well maintained.

You will step into an existing vacancy and help support our housing communities across Canada. The position emphasizes hands-on maintenance, safety training, and the ability to coordinate with contractors.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of relevant maintenance experience.
  • Qualifications in one mechanical trade are an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Must be available for emergency calls (on-call).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean abstract; use of company truck.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all work orders as directed by the Community Manager, requesting materials as needed and flagging when a task cannot be completed by the maintenance team.
  • Request and review quotes from external contractors and manage contractual relations with contractors/suppliers.
  • Perform general maintenance such as mowing, snow removal, pruning, yard waste removal, replacing light bulbs, filling cracks, and painting rental homes and new homes.
  • Sweep and clean roads and perform temporary road repairs as necessary.
  • Participate in safety training within the allocated timeframe.
  • Maintain life safety certificates and backup documentation, ensuring accurate records and adherence to life safety initiatives.
  • Follow up on renovation projects and complete other assigned maintenance duties.

The Community Maintenance role takes direction from the Community Manager, ensuring that work orders are completed, and all common ground areas are maintained and kept clean.

This job is to fill an existing vacancy. We’re looking for a strong candidate who can step into this role and continue supporting our team.

Core Responsibilities
  • Complete all work orders as required by the Community Manager, requesting material as needed, and advising when a work order cannot be completed by the maintenance team
  • Request and review quotes from outside contractors and manage contractual relations with contractors/suppliers
  • General maintenance such as mowing, snow removal, pruning, picking up yard waste, replacing light bulbs, filling cracks, and painting rental homes and new homes
  • Clean and sweep the road, and make temporary road repairs as needed
  • Participate in all safety training within the assigned timeframe
  • Ensure all life safety certificates and back up documentation is in good standing, accurately recorded in company records, and adhere to company life safety initiatives
  • Follow up with renovation projects and complete other maintenance duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Qualifications in one of the mechanical trades a strong asset
  • Organized and able to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Must be available for emergency calls (on-call)
  • A valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract are required, and the successful candidate will have the use of a company truck
