Job summary

S.R.T. MedStaff is recruiting part-time Community House Cleaners (HSW) to provide in-home homemaking services for vulnerable clients across Scarborough and North York. Compensation is $21.00 per hour plus vacation pay and travel where applicable.

Responsibilities include light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, and coordinating with the care team. Requires empathy, reliability, and ability to work across community settings.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to read and write in English and follow written instructions.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill to perform homemaking tasks.
  • Familiarity with common household cleaning products and techniques.
  • Familiarity with vacuum cleaner, washing machine and dryer.
  • Experience or training/experience providing homemaking and cleaning services.
  • Minimum 1 year full-time work experience as a Homemaker in the community.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role.
  • Ability to travel between assignments by public transportation or car.
  • Immunizations up to date (Influenza and COVID vaccinations strongly recommended).
  • Mask fit tested.
  • Current CPR (BCLS) and First Aid Certificate.
  • Meet health surveillance requirements of the Public Hospitals Act.
  • Criminal history clearance in last year.

Responsibilities

  • Treat clients with compassion and respect, valuing diversity.
  • Use judgment and seek supervisory assistance when needed.
  • Report observations or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Follow applicable policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with other health care professionals and program staff.
  • Notify supervisor promptly if client status changes.

Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Personal Support Manager, the Community House Cleaner (or HSW) provides in-home homemaking services to vulnerable clients living in the community as outlined in the written plan of care prepared by the Homemaking Supervisor as authorized by the Homemakers and Nurses Services Caseworker. S.R.T. MedStaff is currently recruiting for Homemakers to work on a part time basis across Scarborough and North York.

Compensation: $21.00 + vacation pay (+ travel when applicable)

Responsibilities
  • Provide homemaking support to clients according to the written plan of care. Homemaking support includes light housekeeping (vacuuming of rugs, mopping of floors, dusting furniture free of articles, wiping countertops and surfaces, cleaning of bathroom toilet sink and tub, making beds, changing linens) laundry, and putting out garbage. Additional duties may include grocery shopping and meal preparation.
  • Treat clients with compassion and respect, recognizing and valuing diversity and working with a vulnerable population.
  • Use judgment in carrying out instructions and recognize the need to seek supervisory assistance.
  • Report/communicate observations or concerns to the appropriate individual(s), as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Follow S.R.T. MedStaff’s written Policies and Procedures, as well as City of Toronto Senior Services & Long Term Care (SSLTC) & HMNS Program Policies and Procedures.
  • Work as a team player with other health care professionals, service providers, SSLTC and HMNS personnel.
  • When providing care to community clients, report to the coordinator immediately if the client is not seen/found or if there is any change in their status.
  • Adhere to S.R.T. MedStaff’s Infection Prevention and Control Policies and Procedures. Reduce the risk of transmitting an infection by practicing thorough hand washing, respiratory etiquette, and social distancing.

  • Experience or an equivalent of training and experience providing homemaking and cleaning services.
  • Minimum 1-year full-time work experience as a Homemaker (Home Support Worker) in the community.
  • Ability to meet the physical demand and requirements of the role.
  • Ability to travel between assignments by public transportation or by car.
  • Negative T.B. skin test or chest x-ray.
  • Immunizations up to date (Influenza and COVID vaccinations strongly recommended).
  • Mask fit tested.
  • Current CPR (BCLS) and First Aid Certificate.
  • Meet health surveillance requirements of the Public Hospitals Act.
  • VSS within the past year of hire confirming absence of a criminal history/record.
