About Outside Looking In (OLI)

Outside Looking In (OLI) is a national non-profit organization offering transformative dance and arts-based education programs to Indigenous youth across Canada, from urban centres to fly-in communities. OLI uses dance to empower students to stay in school, build confidence, and celebrate cultural expression.

We are looking for dynamic, adaptable, and passionate Community Coordinators to help deliver our OLI Dance Program in Indigenous communities across Canada. You’ll serve as the primary connection between OLI and the community, coordinating logistics, supporting youth and volunteers, and ensuring high-quality program delivery. This is a travel-intensive role that offers meaningful community engagement and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Travel & Program Implementation

  • Travel to 3–4 assigned communities throughout the school year (2–3 trips/month, 5 days each).
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for Indigenous youth to participate in the OLI Dance Program.
  • Work in partnership with local schools, community leaders, volunteers, alumni staff, choreographers, and interns.
  • Lead program milestones across the year:
  • Pre-Launch (July–August): Support planning, training, and material prep.
  • Launch (Sept–Oct): Travel to communities to kick off the program and build relationships.
  • Mid-Year (Nov–Feb): Track progress, conduct check-ins, assess youth eligibility, and address challenges.
  • Project Season (Mar–Apr): Coordinate local and national show preparation with youth and families.
  • Camp & Show (May): Participate in a two-week national camp and performance, supporting logistics and camp leadership.
  • Post-Show (May–June): Collect feedback, complete reports, and prepare for the following year.

Core Duties

  • Cultivate strong, professional, and healthy relationships with youth, families, educators, and volunteers.
  • Ensure consistent program delivery and follow up on youth attendance, behaviour, academics, and choreography readiness.
  • Track and assess youth eligibility for OLI Camp and Show through various performance and participation rubrics.
  • Support community show preparation or video projects for “stay” groups.
  • Facilitate parent/guardian meetings, travel coordination, and chaperone orientations in preparation for the “away” group.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and provide regular program updates to the Program Manager and Associate Director.
  • Film and document program highlights and community experiences.
  • Submit timely reports, assessments, and evaluations throughout the program cycle.
  • Provide updates regarding Future Leader ABCs and overall progress to the Future Leader Director/Manager.
  • Support the Future Leader Director/Manager with relevant tasks and internal/external communications.
  • Invest in the professional development of Alumni Staff and Interns through mentorship, feedback, and growth opportunities.

Ideal Candidate

  • A highly organized and proactive relationship builder who thrives in diverse, fast-paced, and evolving environments.
  • Culturally sensitive and respectful of Indigenous communities, youth, and leadership.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel and adaptable to remote and changing settings.
  • A mentor and positive role model for youth, with a team-first mindset, strong communication skills, and strong professional boundaries that support healthy and respectful interactions with youth and community members.

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating programs in remote, cross-cultural, or community-based settings.
  • Warm, approachable, adaptable, and professional.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with working alongside youth, artists, educators, or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and youth-centred approaches is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly.
  • Access to reliable internet and a private remote work setup.
  • Dance or performance background is a plus.
  • First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous or racialized youth is strongly preferred.

We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and those with lived experience in Indigenous communities.
