We are seeking a Communications Student for our Solar District that is available for 4 months or 8 months starting September 2025.

As a Communications Student, depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

  1. Collaborating with the Solar District Communications team to develop and implement communications plans and tactics that support key strategic objectives, engaging both internal and external audiences.
  2. Researching, writing, and proofreading a wide range of engaging content for internal and external audiences, including articles, social media posts, website content, news releases, project profiles, executive communications, and proposal narratives.
  3. Writing, coordinating, and managing distribution and analytics of the district’s weekly internal newsletter.
  4. Coordinating the development and execution of projects/initiatives, as assigned.
  5. Developing and maintaining strong customer-focused relationships with internal stakeholders.
  6. Tracking media coverage, identifying relevant trends, aggregating data, and measuring analytics.
  7. Supporting ongoing research and maintenance of media lists, media kits, communications process documents, project information, and award tracking.
  8. Consistently applying PCL Construction’s branding to communication deliverables.
  9. Adapting writing for both internal (conversational) and external (formal) audiences.
  10. Working with our communications specialist to support community involvement initiatives and campaigns.
  11. Ensuring attention to detail when writing articles, including an understanding of AP Style and writing best practices.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or diploma in journalism, public relations, corporate communications or digital communications, with sound knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and content marketing.
  • Strong writing skills with excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading abilities.
  • A team player with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and take initiative in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, positive attitude, and a highly collaborative team player.
  • A critical thinker with sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and organize information accurately and effectively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Previous experience in a professional environment or co-op/internship experience is considered an asset.
