Job summary

BCFSA is seeking a Communications Specialist (12‑month contract) in Vancouver to develop and coordinate communications materials that support the regulator's mission. You will liaise with teams, produce content for regulated entities and the public, and ensure messages align with brand guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in communications, strong copy-writing/editing skills, and a background in journalism or public relations with experience in financial services or regulatory

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in a communications role with diverse materials (plans, key messages, news releases, social media, website content).
  • 3–5 years copy-writing and editing with a proven track record.
  • Background in journalism, media relations, or public relations.
  • Experience in financial services or regulatory environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CP style, accessibility standards, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience managing and leading communication programmes and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with teams across the organization to understand communications needs and implement strategies.
  • Produce content for regulated entities, consumers, social media, news media, and the public.
  • Review internal and external communications (regulatory instruments, website copy, email/newsletter) to ensure they meet BCFSA’s style and brand guidelines.
  • Manage the corporate communications planning tool and calendar, keeping stakeholders informed of deliverables and timelines.
  • Develop articles, news releases, social media content, and media pitches; respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews.
  • Write copy for owned, earned, and paid media channels – including the intranet – to enhance brand visibility and audience engagement.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends, providing insights and recommendations to improve communication strategies.
  • Provide feedback to project teams and subject matter experts to streamline and clarify communications.
  • Boost brand awareness and visibility through keyword research, audience engagement, and search‑engine optimisation.

As a Communications Specialist (12‑month contract), you will develop and coordinate communications materials that support BCFSA’s regulatory and consumer‑education mission.
