Job summary

The Office of the Integrity Commissioner is seeking a Communications Specialist to support communications, training and outreach activities in Ontario. You will report to the Manager for Communications, Training and Outreach and collaborate with a team of professionals to advance public sector ethics.

This is a new vacancy aimed at enhancing communications, training, and engagement across government and public interest audiences.

Qualifications

  • University undergraduate degree in communications, political science or journalism, or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of related communications and outreach experience.
  • Fluency in French (written and spoken) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Compile information for and contribute to writing and editing communications including reports, training materials, remarks and outreach materials.
  • Use technology to enhance communications (graphic elements, interactive polling, video features).
  • Contribute to planning, review and updates of the OICO website and social media.
  • Prepare responses to media inquiries and general inquiries from the public; coordinate research requests.
  • Coordinate planning of events, meetings, training presentations and outreach activities.

  • Division: Office of the Integrity Commissioner

The Office of the Integrity Commissioner strives to encourage a culture of integrity and accountability. The Office is seeking an innovative, media-savvy and detail oriented Communications Specialist to provide communications , training and outreach support in order to fill the Office’s mandates as a Centre of Excellence in public sector ethics.

As a valued member of our team, reporting directly to the Manager for Communications, Training and Outreach, you will collaborate closely with a dynamic group of communications professionals.

What You’ll Do
You’ll act with integrity to:
  • Compile information for and contribute to the writing and editing a variety of communications including annual reports, training materials, speaking remarks, presentations, outreach materials and e-newsletters.
  • Use technology to enhance communication products (e.g., creating graphic elements) and add interactivity to outreach and training activities (e.g., using online polling and video features).
  • Contribute to the planning, review and updating of the OICO website and social media sites.
  • Prepare responses to media inquiries, general inquiries from members of the public and research/academic requests.
  • Co-ordinate the planning of events, meetings, training presentations and other outreach activities.
You’ll support our collaboration as you:
  • Liaise with Office mandate areas to develop high quality, accurate communications products and support the design, production and publication of these products.
How You Qualify
You demonstrate excellence through your:
  • Completion of a university undergraduate degree in areas of communications, political science or journalism, or equivalent, and related experience equal to 3-5 years with specialized subject knowledge to provide communications and outreach supports, strategies, and education/training content;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, an eye for detail and accuracy, and the ability to distill complex and nuanced ideas into plain language;
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders;
  • Good understanding of the fundamental principles of the Members’ Integrity Act, 1994, the Public Service of Ontario Act, 2006, the Lobbyists Registration Act, 1998, the Cabinet Ministers’ and Opposition Leaders’ Expenses Review and Accountability Act, 2002 and ,the Public Sector Expenses Review Act, 2009, the City of Toronto Act, and the Municipal Act, 2001, for which the Integrity Commissioner is responsible; and
  • Professional fluency in French, both written and oral, with the ability to accurately translate, adapt, and draft communications to engage audiences, would be considered an asset.
