As our Communications Officer, you’ll play a hands-on role in developing and delivering clear, consistent, and compelling messages across a variety of platforms. You’ll work closely with program staff, leadership, community partners and stakeholders to bring our work to life through storytelling, campaigns, and engaging content.

The responsibilities you will be entrusted with include:

  • Write, edit, and proofread content for newsletters, website, blogs, press releases, reports, and more;
  • Manage and grow our social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, etc.);
  • Support the creation and distribution of internal and external communications;
  • Collaborate on campaigns and initiatives that align with organizational goals;
  • Coordinate email marketing and list management (e.g., Mailchimp, Active Campaign);
  • Help maintain and update website content (WordPress or similar CMS);
  • Create basic graphic design and visual content (Canva or Adobe Creative Suite);
  • Support media relations and outreach efforts;
  • Capture and share impact stories from our field;
  • Assist in event promotion and community engagement activities;
  • Monitor communication metrics and support evaluation of strategies;
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • Have one to three years of experience in communications, PR, journalism, or a related field;
  • Hold a degree, diploma or other certification in communications, marketing, or a related discipline;
  • Have strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills;
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple projects with ease;
  • Are comfortable with social media tools and digital platforms;
  • Bring creativity, enthusiasm, and a proactive mindset to your work;
  • Love being part of a team, but can also roll up your sleeves and work independently.
  • Experience in the nonprofit or social impact sector;
  • Knowledge of communications for diverse and multicultural communities;
  • Basic video editing or multimedia production skills.

We help people find the supports and services in the community that are needed to assist them in their daily lives. Location & commitments:This is a full-time permanent position in Ottawa, Ontario.

Working Conditions:

SCS offers a hybrid working environment where work is completed at home or at our head office. It is expected that employees come into the office at their expense when requested. There are frequent interruptions, tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
