Job description

LOCATION : Board Office Pembroke (with travel throughout the RCDSB boundary)

HOURS PER WEEK : 35 hours per week 12 months per year

SUMMARY : Under the supervision of the Director of Education the Communications Officer will coordinate the development and implementation of a systemwide communication plan that links directly to the multiyear Strategic Plan as well as the annual department action plan. The Communications Officer will also manage communications issues and requirements on an ongoing basis with a focus on both proactive and reactive strategies.

RATE OF PAY : Salary is commensurate with experience. Range is between $.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience

  • Minimum of a postsecondary diploma (degree preferred) in communications marketing public relations or a related field and
  • Minimum of two years of related experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design and printing fundamentals as well as software including database spreadsheet word processing publisher and PowerPoint presentation as well as Whiteboard technology experience
  • Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with particular attention to detail
  • Maintenance of thorough and accurate information regarding written communications and dissemination of that information accordingly as well as proper electronic filing of all communications for ease of access / future reference
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills : positive professional and approachable
  • Excels in building strong relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced dynamic environment
  • High level of professionalism and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters
  • Knowledge of the education sector is considered an asset

Key Responsibilities :

Content Creation & Digital Engagement

  • Lead the creation of dynamic content that promotes the boards strengths programs and student achievements across digital platforms.
  • Manage and enhance the boards website social media digital signage and email marketing to increase public awareness and engagement.
  • Design and analyze advertising campaigns that attract enrolment and highlight school and staff excellence through compelling stories photos and videos.

Media & Public Relations

  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and proactively promote positive news stories to enhance the boards public image.
  • Draft media releases organize media events and maintain strong relationships with local and regional outlets to increase media coverage.
  • Provide media coaching to staff and students to help them confidently represent the board in interviews and public appearances.

Strategic & Crisis Communications

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications and marketing plan aligned with the boards goals and community engagement priorities.
  • Lead crisis communication efforts ensuring timely accurate messaging and maintaining the boards reputation during emergencies.
  • Monitor communication trends and analytics to inform strategy adjust campaigns and improve outreach effectiveness.

Internal & Board Communications

  • Craft and distribute internal messages that foster staff morale inform families and support a strong organizational culture.
  • Coordinate communications for Board and Committee meetings including recording messaging and publicfacing reports.
  • Contribute to the Annual Report and key district publications by promoting accomplishments and reinforcing the boards brand identity.
  • Advise schools and departments on marketing and communications strategies that support enrolment community outreach and school pride.
  • Maintain consistent use of branding and communication tools across the district to present a unified public image.
  • Support initiatives that elevate student voice recognize staff contributions and strengthen community engagement across the board.
