Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary Range: $90,770 to $130,481; Typical Hiring Range $90,770 to $113,462

Role Summary

Health Quality BC provides system-wide leadership to efforts designed to improve the quality of health care in British Columbia. Through collaborative partnerships with health authorities, patients, and those working within the health care system, we promote and inform a provincially-coordinated, patient-centred approach to quality.

Reporting to the Director of Communications & Public Relations, the Communications Leader provides communication services and advice to Health Quality BC’s various departments, projects and initiatives. The Leader develops and supports implementation of communications plans. They also provide expertise and guidance to their peers in writing, editing and producing consistent and quality communications materials for Health Quality BC. The Communications Leader plans strategy and develops a coordinated action plan to ensure communications are of high quality, consistent and successful in facilitating change, while maintaining relationships among both internal and external partners.

The Communications Leader has an ability to convene multiple system partners and maintain excellent professional relationships. They are a resourceful, creative, and customer‑focused individual capable of seeing the big picture and yet not shy about rolling up their sleeves to work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with team members to implement tactics and meet deadlines. The Leader should be a dynamic self‑starter capable of prioritizing competing deadlines and able to make connections between Health Quality BC’s projects and initiatives and the broader health care environment.

Key Accountabilities

• Writes and implements communications plans for Health Quality BC projects and initiatives.
• Monitors and reports on communications outcomes
• Implements the organization’s brand strategy, including brand guidelines and ensuring consistency across the organization’s materials
• Identifies key components and underlying issues and systematically analyzes problems and determines solutions
• Liaises and collaborates on joint initiatives and events with health system partners including health authorities, the Ministry of Health, provincial and federal agencies, patients and other members of the community, and affiliated professional organizations and groups
• Manages vendors and creative agencies where required
• Writes, edits and produces diverse communications including media releases, newsletters, web copy and social posts, brochures, speeches and presentations to ensure overall quality, consistency and effectiveness complex communication materials
• As a contributor to Health Quality BC’s team, participates in the development of strategy aimed at increasing awareness within target groups

Qualifications

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as a Degree in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications, combined with at least five years of experience in a communications role. Master’s degree preferred.

Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing, measuring and reporting communications programs and projects. Advanced skills and experience in journalistic and business writing, as well as the skill to develop compelling written and multimedia presentations to target and engage a variety of interested parties. Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact and diplomacy. Flexibility to reprioritize quickly to meet changing priorities. Strong communication and relationship skills including the ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of internal and external partners. Uses broad knowledge of the social, political and economic environment in the provision of strategic advice to internal teams relating to government, community and media communications.
