Job summary

DeafBlind Ontario Services is seeking a dedicated Communication Support Professional (CSP) or Certified Deafblind Intervenor Specialist (CDBIS) for part-time relief in London, Ontario. This role focuses on personalized support and empowering individuals to reach their goals.

You will work using multiple communication methods (ASL, SEE, LSQ, etc.), advocate for clients, support daily living activities, meal prep, and documentation in a collaborative, respectful team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customized supports to increase individuals' independence and life enrichment.
  • Advocate for individuals' needs and goals.
  • Use multiple communication methods to facilitate information exchange.
  • Follow health care instructions and complete required documentation.
  • Assist with meals and healthy eating choices as required.
  • Implement behavioral strategies and track/report progress.
  • Provide personal care tasks as needed (transfers, grooming, etc.).
  • Assist with budgeting and maintaining financial records for individuals.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission, values, and strategic direction.

Support Professionals provide support and assistance through effective communication, life skills training, building social skills, development of personal and professional support systems, and the achievement of personal goals through a person centered approach.

We are currently hiring for a direct support position as a Communication Support Professional (CSP) or second level – Certified Deafblind Intervenor Specialist (CDBIS), then they will be transferred to that same position level.

YOUR ROLE
  • Takes a holistic approach to providing an array of services that are customized to each individual’s unique needs, method of communication, and goals to increase their independence and enrich their life;
  • Advocates on behalf of individuals and their unique needs and goals;
  • Demonstrates professionalism with colleagues, family members/ guardians, and in the community;
  • As a communication partner, use as many methods of communication needed to facilitate the exchange of information (ASL, SEE, LSQ, etc.);
  • Follows all medical treatment and procedures outlined by health care professionals and completes required documentation;
  • Embodies the philosophy of ‘do with not for’; assists people supported in realizing their potential;
  • Prepares and/or assists with meal preparation and healthy food choices according to specific dietary requirements;
  • Implements behavioural strategies outlined by behavioural professionals, including tracking and reporting;
  • Provides personal care as required (e.g. lifts and transfers, toileting, personal hygiene, etc.);
  • Assists people supported with managing personal finances, budgeting, and maintaining up-to-date financial records;
  • Believes in the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic direction and provides the highest quality of service.
