Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Commissioning Project Manager based in Canada.

In this senior role, you will lead commissioning projects that help organizations improve building performance, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. You will oversee projects from initial scoping and planning through execution, testing, and final delivery, ensuring quality outcomes within agreed budgets and timelines. Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and construction professionals, you will translate technical requirements and sustainability objectives into practical solutions. You will also manage project finances, strengthen client relationships, and identify opportunities to expand the impact of your work. The role offers significant autonomy, a flexible working environment, and the opportunity to contribute to innovative real estate and decarbonization initiatives. You will join a collaborative, values-driven team committed to environmental restoration, social equity, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the full lifecycle of commissioning projects, from initial scoping and planning through implementation, testing, and closeout, while maintaining at least 75% direct project work and overseeing annual revenue portfolios of $250,000 or more.

  • Independently scope and plan small to mid-sized projects, preparing estimates, budgets, schedules, and deliverables in collaboration with internal teams, clients, and external partners.

  • Serve as the primary client contact, building trusted relationships through clear communication, transparency, reliability, and proactive issue resolution.

  • Translate client objectives into actionable project plans, balancing strategic goals with technical requirements and day-to-day execution.

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and project coordinators, while promoting accountability, collaboration, and professional development.

  • Manage complex engagements involving multiple stakeholders, locations, and distributed teams, ensuring alignment throughout project delivery.

  • Identify opportunities for additional services and integrated solutions that increase client value and strengthen long-term partnerships.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate project contracts and related documentation in coordination with design and construction teams.

  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, earned revenue, forecasting, and risk mitigation, to maintain financial health and achieve targets.

  • Oversee technical commissioning activities, including design reviews, integration of the Basis of Design (BOD) and Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), equipment installation reviews, submittal reviews, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) coordination, verification of sequences of operation, system startup, functional performance testing, and staff training.

  • Uphold high standards of quality, ethics, professionalism, and client service while supporting the organization's sustainability and social impact objectives.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing feedback, mentoring colleagues, and helping strengthen team capabilities and project delivery practices.

Requirements
  • Between 5 and 10 years of technical experience in building commissioning, MEP design, energy consulting, or a related field, including at least 3 years in project management.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage commissioning projects throughout their lifecycle, including project scoping, budgeting, scheduling, technical coordination, and client engagement.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building control systems in commercial buildings, with the ability to interpret construction documents, drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Familiarity with commissioning standards and best practices, including ASHRAE, LEED, CALGreen, and Title 24.

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Strong project financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, earned revenue tracking, and risk assessment.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and coordinate diverse teams.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, combined with attention to technical detail and the capacity to manage multiple projects independently.

  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative culture centered on feedback, learning, accountability, and measurable impact.

  • A commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and social equity, with an approach aligned with values-driven business practices.

  • Preferred qualifications: Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), Professional Engineer (PE), Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), or other relevant credentials.

  • Additional assets: Experience commissioning large, mission-critical, or all‑electric buildings; familiarity with commissioning analytics and continuous monitoring tools such as SkySpark or fault detection and diagnostics platforms; experience mentoring junior engineers or project managers; understanding of commissioning business models, client return on investment, and business case development; or experience in socially responsible organizations.

Benefits
