Job summary

APRIL Canada Insurance is seeking a skilled Commercial Underwriter to help brokers across Ontario find solutions for complex insurance risks. This role offers the chance to deepen your technical knowledge and develop strong relationships with brokers.

You will be providing exceptional service and help reshape the insurance industry with a focus on collaboration, trust, and innovation. Experience in Commercial Underwriting is essential as well as a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge in Realty, Manufacturing & Wholesaling, Construction, and more.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business in accordance with insurer guidelines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners.
• Respond promptly to broker inquiries by phone and email.

As a Commercial Underwriter, you'll work closely with brokers across Ontario, helping them find solutions for complex and specialized risks. Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business in accordance with insurer guidelines and delegated authority levels
• Review and analyze submissions to assess risk acceptability
• Prepare and deliver quotations, renewal proposals, and policy endorsements
• Evaluate coverage requirements and recommend appropriate insurance solutions
• Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners
• Respond promptly to broker inquiries by phone and email, delivering professional and responsive service
• Identify opportunities to develop new business and strengthen existing broker relationships
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and records

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience
• Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Realty, Manufacturing & Wholesaling, Construction, Professional Lines (Miscellaneous E&O and/or Medical Malpractice), Property & Casualty, Transportation
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Lloyd's markets
• CIP designation completed or in progress
• Experience in a wholesale brokerage environment
