Hi Everyone! Exciting news! We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Commercial Underwriter to join our client's underwriting team. The ideal candidate will assess and evaluate risks for a variety of commercial insurance policies, ensuring that pricing, coverage, and terms align with company guidelines and risk appetite. This role requires strong decision-making skills, broker relationship management, and a solid understanding of underwriting principles in the commercial lines space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze commercial insurance applications, reports, and other data to determine risk acceptability, coverage, and pricing.
- Underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with company guidelines and delegated authority.
- Collaborate with brokers and agents to obtain necessary information and negotiate terms when appropriate.
- Make sound risk selection decisions and document underwriting rationale clearly and accurately.
- Maintain profitable portfolio performance by adhering to underwriting strategies, loss ratio targets, and growth goals.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging risks in the commercial insurance sector.
- Participate in audits, training, and internal underwriting discussions to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Contribute to team initiatives including process improvement, product development, and underwriting guidelines updates.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
- CIP, CRM, or progress toward professional insurance designations is preferred.
- 2–5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in property, casualty, or specialty lines.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and underwriting software platforms.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and business partners.
