Description

A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach New business Development – COMM 405 in the winter term. There is one section available. Teaching this one (1) section of Comm 405 will entail teaching 3 hours per week, in two 1.5-hour sessions (24 classes in a term), from January to April 2027. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one section of COMM 405, with a maximum enrollment of 55 students.

Course Description

The focus of this course is to provide students with knowledge, skills, and tools that form the basis required to identify, analyze, plan, and execute a new venture activity. It also provides a depth of understanding of the practical realities of new ventures and growing a small business. This course requires a high degree of self-study as the major project involves the detailed analysis, planning and presentation of a business plan for a new venture proposal. Students are expected and encouraged to use this course to assess and plan actual new venture opportunities that they may seriously consider. Guest speakers, cases and concepts will be utilized to allow the student to better understand the exciting and challenging realities of entrepreneurship and managing new ventures.

Compensation

The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $13,856 (excluding vacation pay). This salary is pro-rated based on course credit.
