Name and description of hiring department: Télébec

The candidate will be responsible for carrying out installation, repair, replacement, modification, and maintenance of equipment and telecommunications equipment for residential and business customers. They will install, connect, maintain, and remove circuit and data transmission equipment, as well as business products such as telephone equipment and voicemail, efficiently and without direct supervision.

Job Duties/Accountabilities
  1. Install, move, remove, repair, replace, modify, and maintain transmission equipment according to standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  2. Organize daily work, review records, set itineraries, communicate with customers, and estimate work for business facilities.
  3. Familiarize customers with telecommunication equipment during installation and promote sale of products/services and company equipment.
  4. Perform circuit checks using testers and conduct preventive maintenance.
  5. Perform wiring, connections, terminations, and ensure equipment functionality.
  6. Edit, move, or delete programming parameters of telecommunication ports and network equipment; update databases accordingly.
  7. Communicate with specialized personnel for problem-solving and information exchange.
  8. Handle tools, equipment, materials, vehicles, and maintain inventory and workplace cleanliness.
  9. Perform DATA commands and special services.
  10. Complete forms and prepare reports on work done.
  11. Be available to meet customer demands, handle emergencies, and travel.
  12. Be available for overtime and travel, including trips by helicopter, snowmobile, ATV.
  13. Perform any related work as required and ensure fitness for duties.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
  • College diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience; a high school diploma is minimum outside of the Teamsters Télébec bargaining unit.
  • Excellent knowledge of the outside plant.
  • Valid driver’s license - Class 5.
  • High manual dexterity, ability to work with hand tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy weights (e.g., 80 lbs) such as ladders.
  • Trained to work aloft on poles and ladders for long durations, possibly with spur.
  • Capable of working aloft, kneeling, bending, and in restricted spaces.
  • Ability to differentiate colored wires (color coding).
  • Willing to undergo background security clearance as required.
  • Knowledge of different business products and services.
  • Knowledge of programming principles.
  • Represent the company appropriately to customers.
  • Planning skills, highly organized.
  • Team spirit and mutual assistance.
  • Versatile and adaptable.
  • Perform work safely, accurately, swiftly, and courteously.
Working conditions
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and flexible schedules, including standby and overtime as needed.
