Job summary

York University Libraries seeks a Collections and Acquisitions Manager to lead the Content Development and Acquisitions Department. You will supervise staff, oversee acquisitions, catalogs, and accessibility services, and collaborate with Archives & Special Collections to maintain standards and workflows.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, you will develop strategies, manage budgets, and drive inclusive, high-quality access to library resources in a post-secondary environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a relevant discipline with strong acquisitions background.
  • 5 years related experience; minimum 4 years in acquisitions/serials including cataloguing or descriptive work.
  • 3 years of management/supervisory experience and budget forecasting skills.
  • Experience with Archives and Special Collections and with digitization workflows.
  • Knowledge of Canadian copyright processes and legislation; experience in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Content Development and Acquisitions Department.
  • Lead staff, set workflows, standards, and policies to ensure effective operations.

We are collecting applications from all interested persons Band/Salary Grade * F Compensation * Hiring Salary Range:$109,226 - $118,578 (FTE annual) Access Full Position Posting Purpose: York University Libraries' Content Development and Acquisitions Department oversees the acquisition and processing of content and distinctive collections that support curricular and research needs at York University.Reporting to the Associate Dean, Research and Open Scholarship, the Collections and Acquisitions Manager is responsible for the effective planning and leadership, day to day management and supervision of staff within the Content Development and Acquisitions Department, including collections maintenance, acquisitions, and accessibility services. The Manager works collaboratively with the Content Development & Analysis team to acquire materials, facilitate access to collections, assess collections, provide statistical information as required and evaluate and establish standards, workflows, procedures and policies that ensure effective operations of the Department. The Manager also works collaboratively with the Archives & Special Collections team to oversee staff, facilitate the hiring of staff in collaboration with archivists, and facilitate the maintenance and continuity of public service standards, workflows, procedures and policies drawing on the expertise of subject specialists. The role works in close partnership with academic and administrative leaders to determine operational priorities and manages daily activities of Library staff. The role leads and maintains an effective collaborative performance culture. Develops an inclusive work environment that drives respect, facilitates innovation, encourages creativity, and drives outcomes. Education: Bachelors degree in relevant discipline. Experience: 5 years related experience. 4 years in acquisitions and/or serials, including some cataloguing or descriptive bibliographic experience. 3 years of management/ supervisory experience. Budget planning, financial accounting and forecasting experience. Experience with Archives and special collections as well as collections maintenance. Experience with digitization processes and workflows as well as providing support to persons with disabilities in a post-secondary environment. Experience with large software applications such as procurement, integrated library records management and/or human resource systems. Skills: Knowledge Knowledge of Library acquisitions management. Effective knowledge of Canadian copyright processes and legislation. Knowledge of workforce planning, budgeting and financial management, process improvement and change management. Working knowledge of managing in a unionized environment and applying a collective agreement. Working knowledge of how to provide support to individuals with disabilities in a post-secondary environment. Effective knowledge of AODA. Effective knowledge and demonstrated understanding of providing accommodation and customer service to persons with disabilities. Working knowledge of assistive technologies (Kurzweil 3000, Kurzweil 1000, Dragon Naturally Speaking, IBM Via Voice, TextHelp, Inspiration, Jaws, ZoomText, Windows Accessibility tools). Skills Proficient with procurement systems as well as Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Financial accounting and analytical skills. Ability to provide effective service to the community and deal courteously and effectively with others at all levels. Effective problem identification and conflict resolution skills. Ability to foster an environment of trust, support and accountability while modelling respect for employees. Ability to develop and/or lead cohesive teams and manage performance and productivity. Effective planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload and meet timelines. Able to adapt to change, new ideas and practices.
