Job summary

Dometic Marine invites a student to join our Vancouver team as a Co-op Product Designer - Software. You will contribute to embedded and utility software development and collaborate with engineering staff across the facility.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, hardware/software integration, and concept studies in motor control, IoT, and machine learning. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited engineering program in Canada.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited engineering program at a university.
• Software design and programming in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Familiarity with CAN bus networks and protocols; experience with serial protocols such as SPI, I2C, Modbus.

Responsibilities

• Design and program embedded software and utility software.
• Develop and execute unit tests; perform hardware/software integration testing.
• Conduct proof-of-concept projects on motor control, IoT, and machine learning.
• Perform system testing with controllers, CAN networks, displays and CAN bus networks.
• Assist in test planning, instrumentation setup and data analysis.

• Pay or shift range: $24.50 CAD to $28.50 CAD. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Co-op Product Designer - Software. This position reports to Software Leader and will work in Vancouver, B.C.

**Please note that this position is open to current students enrolled in a Canadian accredited university and co-op program.

Dometic Marine’s headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As Co-op Product Designer - Softwareon the Vancouver team, you will be involved in a wide variety of tasks supporting administrative, engineering, and technical staff throughout the facility.

General Responsibilities

• Embedded software and utility software design and programming
• Develop and execute software unit testing
• Perform hardware/software integration testing
• Proof of concept projects on various technologies such as motor control, IoT, and machine learning
• Perform system level testing in electronic systems with multiple controllers, steering devices, actuators, displays, and CAN bus networks
• Support development and execution of functional test plans
• Perform mechatronic design, sensor and motor evaluation, prototype assembly, test and analysis
• Perform CAN network simulation and testing with CANoe & CANalyzer
• Test automation design, data analysis, and process improvement with scripting (e.g. Python)
• Control system setup, troubleshooting, PID tuning and optimization
• Setup instrumentation on test benches, including use of sensors, controllers, actuator selection, as well as CAPL programming and equipment commissioning
• Research and design concept solutions

Skills & Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an Engineering program at an accredited university
• Software design and programming skills in C / C++, especially for embedded systems
• Familiarity with CAN bus networks and protocols
• Experience with serial communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, Modbus.
• Exposure to unit, functional, integration, and automated testing
• Proficiency with engineering tools including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
• Experience with electronics, motors and sensors is an asset
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a strong team
