Job summary

Nutrien in Carseland, Alberta, is seeking a chemical engineering co-op student to join the Carseland Nitrogen Operations. This role focuses on support for process design, change management, and hazard analysis within a large fertilizer production facility.

You will assist with engineering studies, data collection, and documentation while working under a licensed PE, with occasional field time and exposure to piping, heat exchangers, and control systems.

Qualifications

  • Engineering co-op student pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, preference is for work terms 4 and 5.
  • P&ID use and interpretation knowledge is desirable.
  • Experience with API Pressure Relief standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of pipe sizing and piping design is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of change process by assisting with process design and documentation.
  • Provide process engineering support to complete recommendations from process hazard analysis.
  • Assist senior specialists in detailed technical evaluations such as catalyst, heat exchanger, and compressor performance.
  • Provide process engineering support to capital project development and design.
  • Complete level-appropriate engineering studies, calculations, or modeling and simulation of chemical processes.
  • Provide technical support to automated process monitoring applications.
  • Collect data and develop an electronic process information database.
  • Work under the direction of a licensed professional engineer who will take responsibility for the work products.
