Job summary

TAG HR is seeking a hands-on CNC Machinist for an onsite role in Stittsville, ON. The successful candidate will set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, read complex drawings, perform in-process inspections, and ensure parts meet quality requirements.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in machining, familiarity with Fanuc/Okuma controls, and strong attention to detail. ISO standards and safety procedures are integral to daily operations.

About the Role

The CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes, producing precision components, and performing in-process inspections to ensure parts meet drawing and quality requirements.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, reading technical drawings, using precision measuring equipment, and making machine adjustments as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including turning and/or milling equipment.
• Monitor machines during production and make necessary adjustments to meet drawing specifications.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and production requirements.
• Inspect parts during the machining process to verify accuracy and quality.
• Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Complete daily machine checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
• Record production information, including machine activity, production times, quantities, and quality results.
• Maintain accurate production and quality tracking logs.
• Communicate any production, material, or logistical issues that may impact the machining process.
• Work closely with programmers, team leads, and colleagues to resolve production issues.
• Ensure finished products meet drawing specifications and customer quality expectations.
• Follow established safety procedures, ISO standards, and company processes.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC equipment.
• Strong blueprint/technical drawing reading skills.
• Experience using precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.
• Familiarity with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Okuma, or similar systems is an asset.
• Post-secondary education or training in Machining, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related field is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established work procedures.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Good manual dexterity and ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift materials up to approximately 15 kg.

Equipment & Environment

The facility currently operates approximately 7 CNC machines and 2 manual machines. Machinists may be responsible for monitoring multiple machines at a time, depending on production requirements.

The facility follows ISO standards and maintains a structured production and quality-control environment.

Shifts

Current/Initial Shift

• Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Upcoming Evening Shift

• Monday to Thursday: 3:00 PM – 1:30 AM
• Expected to begin in November

The ideal candidate will have solid machining fundamentals and the ability to read drawings, inspect parts, monitor equipment, and communicate effectively with colleagues and programming/production teams.
