Job summary

American Heavy Plates is seeking an experienced machinist to prepare raw steel and finished products to the correct length and shape using an Oxyfuel Cutting Table and Sigmanest Program. You will operate CNC machines, read drawings, and apply shop math to produce parts to customer specifications.

The role requires safe material handling with cranes and forklifts, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a heavy industrial environment with PPE provided.

Qualifications

• Ability to apply shop math to fabricating parts.
• Read and follow blueprints and drawings.
• Download programs via disc, flash drive or direct connect.
• Perform nesting and cuts as defined by production.
• Complete production and Quality Control sheets accurately.
• Read operator's book and make correct parts.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position is responsible for preparing raw steel and finished product to the correct length and shape according to customer requirements using an Oxyfuel Cutting Table and Sigmanest Program.

Job Overview

Candidate will be assigned to operate and set up conventional or numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate parts, applying knowledge of shop math, machinability of materials and drawings.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Setup, program-edit and run cutting tables
• Must be able to learn and operate other prep equipment
• Must be able to finish product with grinders, sanders, and hand tools.
• Perform daily preventive maintenance to assigned equipment to keep in proper working order.
• Must have the ability to read blueprints and use general measuring equipment to produce quality product to specifications.
• Safely move material using overhead cranes and forklifts
• Clean and maintain the work area
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and management
• Assist in other manufacturing areas when needed
• Attention to detail in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / SKILLS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

WORK CONDITIONS:

• Environment is that of a heavy industrial work site
• Outdoor elements are a factor
• Exposure to air particles, such as dust, chemical (paint, oil, gas, diesel fumes) and weld smoke
• Exposure to loud, penetrating noises in some work areas
• Proper personal protective equipment is required at all times, such as, steel toed or metatarsal boots, ear plugs/earmuffs, safety glasses, pants, hard hats and possible respirator use
