One of the main areas of transformation is the public cloud and the various platform technologies that support both development and operations on the cloud. The aim is to provide a streamlined process and framework which will allow the development teams to focus on building business logic. The platform is used by development teams globally to host hundreds of applications. We are looking to build our development team with influencers, makers, creators, and industry leaders who will drive us forward. The role of the Cloud Engineer operates within the Modern App Platform Engineering team. This valuable member of the team will be responsible for creating platform components and services for broad enterprise use.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
  1. Key accountabilities include development and maintenance of cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of cloud common functionality.
  2. Level 3 support responsibilities are required.
  3. Designing, implementing, and refactoring code.
  4. Participating in design discussions focused on scalability and design and implementation best practices.
  5. Ensuring software, programs, and applications are developed and/or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements.
  6. Working with other engineers and architects on breaking down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
  7. Participating in planning and retrospective sessions, attending stand-ups, etc.
  8. Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
  9. Supporting application teams on the use of the platform including providing guidance on design patterns, best practices, and security considerations.
  10. Our teams are flexible and fast – you will be asked to provide peer review and quality control on a daily basis.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
  1. 3+ years of relevant software development or infrastructure experience.
  2. Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform/components/services development.
  3. Strong development experience, delivery history, and breadth of language experience (e.g., Java, Python, Go).
  4. Full understanding of software development life cycle as well as related.
  5. Knowledgeable in cloud platform features and capabilities (Microsoft Azure, Google GCP).
  6. Ability to work on ambiguous problems of moderate complexity.
  7. Experience in a modern technology stack.
  8. Self-sufficient, works under the supervision of a more senior engineer.
  9. Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; of specific importance is the strong communication to a technical audience.
  10. Knowledge of software design patterns, infrastructure architecture, DevOps, or security considerations.
  11. Experience working with databases.
  12. Understanding of software release process (environments, binary repositories, CI/CD).
  13. Attention to details, high standards for quality.
  14. Desire to learn, grow yourself and your team.
  15. Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a deep pride in quality craftsmanship that delights users.
  16. Writing and maintaining related documentation.
  17. Investigating, analyzing, and resolving system problems.
  18. Experience with Kubernetes or containerized applications is required.
  19. Experience within Canadian financial institutions is a benefit.
  20. Experience with Terraform is a benefit.
  21. Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline.
