Job Summary:

The Live-In Treatment (LIT) Clinical Therapist is an integral part of a busy, dynamic and innovative 24/7 clinical treatment program at Kinark Child and Family Services in Peterborough, Ontario. The LIT operates as a comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) treatment program. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the LIT Clinical Therapist will coordinate care and provide direct psychotherapeutic intervention (DBT-based) to youth and their families. They will support the ongoing development and implementation of DBT treatment and intervention within the LIT program. The Clinical Therapist will be responsible for completing comprehensive clinical assessments and formulating and developing individualized treatment plans prior to the youth entering LIT. They will provide individual, family, and/or group therapy to high risk and complex children, youth, and families within Live-In Treatment Milieu and office-based, as well as community-based settings, as required. The successful candidate will be required to be present onsite at the Live-In Treatment program 3-4 days per week, including 2 evenings per week.

Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Support in assessing eligibility of client’s needs and presentation with Live-In-Treatment program and participate in collaborative community meetings.
  • Complete an initial comprehensive assessment, considering the multiple layers and interacting mental health issues, needs, and disorders.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Complete a comprehensive formulation and treatment plan as a foundation for treatment, integrating input from interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provide evidenced-based interventions to both youth and families, monitoring outcomes for treatment effectiveness.
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to align with changes in clients' status.
  • Provide support, direct coaching, and feedback to members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Actively participate in Competency-Based Clinical Supervision model.
  • Ensure that all required documentation is in compliance with MCCSS licensing timelines and content requirements.
  • Collaborate with other members of the treatment team and participate in Live-in-Treatment DBT Consultation Team and additional interagency/team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a Health-Related Discipline with training in the controlled act of Psychotherapy (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing).
  • Must be registered and in good standing with a Health Regulatory College.
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience working in a mental health setting.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, formulation and treatment planning skills.
  • Significant experience delivering full model DBT is strongly preferred.
  • Some training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is required.
  • Experience with providing a broad range of clinical services to children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated expertise in family therapy and advanced group skills with youth and parents are preferred.
  • Leadership experience is a strong asset.
  • Computer competency is required.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures is considered an asset.
  • Travel is required; must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
