This role (Clinical Therapist) is assessed as a Roamer position requiring at least 3 days in the office per week and two evenings per week (until 8pm), dependent upon client need. This role is also eligible for the compressed work week program upon successful completion of probationary period.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Therapist is an integral part of a busy, dynamic, and growing clinical program at Kinark Child and Family Services, Community Based Child and Youth Mental Health program in the Northumberland region. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Clinical Therapist will liaise with internal and external collaterals in the provision of clinical services. Responsibilities include completing comprehensive clinical assessments, formulating and developing individualized treatment plans, and providing individual, family, and/or group therapy to high-risk and complex children, youth, and families in office-based and community settings. The successful candidate will work some evenings per week based on client needs.

The Clinical Therapist position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2860. Internal applicants will be considered first.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Complete initial comprehensive assessments considering mental health issues, needs, disorders, substance use, and medical conditions.
2. Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
3. Use commitment strategies to engage clients in therapy, assessing readiness and stage of change.
4. Develop comprehensive treatment plans with input from collateral sources and the multidisciplinary team.
5. Adjust treatment activities as clients' conditions change.
6. Provide evidence-based interventions with ongoing monitoring of outcomes.
7. Focus on developing and maintaining pro-social behaviors and self-regulation of mental health symptoms and related behaviors.
8. Monitor and document client contacts and progress notes in accordance with policy.
9. Collaborate with treatment team members and participate in interagency meetings.

Qualifications:

1. A Master’s Degree in Social Work or a Health-Related Discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
2. Must be fully registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as a Social Worker, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
3. Must be eligible to perform Psychotherapy as defined under the act.
4. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a mental health setting.
5. Strong clinical assessment, formulation, and treatment planning skills.
6. Training or experience in Triple P, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Brief Therapy is an asset.
7. Experience providing a broad range of clinical services to children and adolescents with challenging issues.
8. Expertise in family therapy, including brief models, and advanced group skills with children and parents is preferred.
9. Computer skills and experience working with diverse cultures are assets.
10. Valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and willingness to obtain appropriate automobile insurance are required as travel is involved.
