Working for the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine

The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is committed to excellence in clinical care, exemplary postgraduate education in anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine; and the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge in both basic science and clinical/translational research.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide support to clinical research studies/projects in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine conducted by Drs Neufeld and Dillane. The position is diversified and complex, with some standard procedures and day-to-day research operations, procedures and protocols, as well as independent problem solving.

Duties

  • Participates in protocol management: reviews and adheres to multiple research protocols
  • Ethics submission to the Research Ethics Board (initial submission, amendments, renewals, applicable updates) and resolve any study issues addressed by ethics review.
  • Assembles study specific source documents and prepares study binders to ensure regulatory documentation is maintained to meet study requirements
  • Established protocol management to ensure that reviews adhere to research protocols including overall project planning and management for multiple clinical research projects:
  • Conducts screening and recruitment of potential study participants; including obtaining consent, performs study specific assessments pre- and post-operatively as required/appropriate
  • Conducts patient follow-up, data collection, case report form (CRF) completion, study monitoring, data query resolution; promotes patient's adherence to the study and monitors patient safety in relation to study protocols
  • Conducts daily aspects of trials according to defined study protocols

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Psychology or other Health Science
  • Previous experience with clinical trials is required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • NACTRAC research course is preferred.
  • Society of Clinical Research Associate (SoCRA) certification is an asset
