Job description

Status: Full-Time, Fixed-Term (8 weeks, Summer 2026)

Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday

Reporting to: Chief Nursing Officer

Compensation: $17.60 hourly, plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, and 4% pay in lieu of benefits

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Quality Lead, the Clinical Projects Summer Student will support ongoing clinical and quality initiatives that strengthen patient care and hospital operations. Working closely with members of the clinical team, you will contribute to organizing medical and hospital records, supporting data migration efforts, and assisting with quality improvement activities.

This role offers a hands‑on introduction to the healthcare environment, with a focus on data integrity, documentation, and quality improvement practices in a specialised hospital setting.

This is an on‑site position, with all hours of work occurring at Casey House.

Responsibilities
Clinical Records Management
  • Review and organize paper archives of medical records and other hospital records.
  • Review and organize electronic medical records and assist with data migration activities.
  • Make recommendations about document storage (paper‑based and/or digital) and support the development of filing systems.
  • Organize documents that no longer need to be retained and prepare them for secure document destruction.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality when handling personal health information and other sensitive records.
Quality Improvement Support
  • Support clinical quality improvement initiatives such as hand hygiene audits, chart audits, and other measurement activities.
  • Assist with data entry, data verification, and basic analysis or summaries as directed.
  • Support inventory management related to clinical or quality project needs.
Policy, Process & Administrative Support
  • Assist with policy review and related documentation tasks (e.g., formatting, organising, tracking).
  • Help maintain organised and accurate clinical project files and records.
  • Support other clinical projects and duties as required.
  • Follow instructions accurately and work collaboratively with clinical and quality team members.
About You
  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a degree or diploma program in Nursing, Health Sciences, Health Information Management, Data/Informatics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare environment and familiarity with medical and/or mental health terminology.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to accurately follow instructions.
  • Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable performing administrative tasks, including data entry; previous experience with data entry is an asset.
  • Experience in an administrative role, preferably in a healthcare setting, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and other applicable privacy regulations is an asset.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 20 lbs as part of records and document handling.

  • Eligible per the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs programme.
Eligibility
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
