Job summary

Alberta Health Services at Stollery Children's Hospital is seeking a Clinical Instructor (Technologies) to lead and advance respiratory therapy education within the inpatient and ED settings. You will educate staff, coach bedside practice, and help implement advanced therapies while collaborating with therapists, physicians and nurses to ensure high-quality pediatric care.

Qualifications

  • Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.
  • Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Successful completion of CBRC exam.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • 3+ years pediatric acute care experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Job description

Step into a leadership and education role supporting respiratory care across the inpatient wards and Emergency Department at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. As part of the Respiratory Therapy education and leadership team, you will advance clinical practice, build staff competency, and support safe, high quality pediatric respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Instructor (RTCI) supports frontline clinicians through orientation, continuing education, skills development, and real time clinical coaching. This role collaborates closely with Respiratory Therapists, physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary partners to support readiness for respiratory emergencies, acute deterioration, and evolving best practices.

This role supports evidence based practice, patient safety, and staff confidence while fostering a strong culture of learning. The position involves education delivery, bedside clinical support, computer work, and physical activity in clinical environments. This role may require extended periods of sitting, computer work, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as cross-coverage of other leadership roles as required.

As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department, as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education. You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience designing and delivering education in clinical or academic settings.Training or experience in high‑fidelity simulation, scenario development, and structured debriefing.Previous educator, preceptor, or mentorship experience.Demonstrated leadership within clinical or quality initiatives.Participation on committees, QI groups, or change management projects.Evidence of advanced continuing education or professional development.PALS certification.
