St. Joseph's Health Care London/Parkwood Institute Main in London, ON is seeking a Physiotherapy Clinical Extern for a temporary part-time role. Salary is $20.60 per hour. The position is anticipated to run until March 31, 2027, with scheduling including day/evening/weekend shifts.

The extern will work under supervision, joining an interdisciplinary team to support patient care and develop clinical skills in a clinical environment.

Qualifications

• Student in Physiotherapy enrolled in an accredited program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate.
• Ability to work independently with supervision in patient care areas.
• Assist with activities of daily living, ROM, mobility and orientation under supervision.
• Self-directed with teamwork skills and strong communication.
• Knowledge of safety culture in health care settings and OHSA compliance.
• Good problem-solving, organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to apply proper body mechanics for lifting and transfers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexible and well-organized.

Responsibilities

Temporary Regular Part Time

Salary Range: $20.60 - $20.60 /hour

This is a temporary part-time position that is anticipated to extend until March 31, 2027, and is subject to the availability.

Through a patient and family-centered approach, the Clinical Extern (physiotherapy) will work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of registered staff, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team as an unregulated care provider, to promote and advocate for wellness while ensuring the delivery of holistic, high quality and safe care to patients.

This is an exciting opportunity for physiotherapy students to work in a clinical environment where they can develop their clinical skills and expertise, knowledge, and self-confidence as they prepare to transition into a regulated health professional. The Externs will work at one of the St. Joseph's Health Care sites.

Reporting to the Professional Practice Partnership Program, the Clinical Extern (physiotherapy) will work part-time hours to a maximum of full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on organizational needs and may include day/evening and weekend shifts.

The anticipated start: October - November 2026.

Essential Qualifications

• Student in Physiotherapy enrolled in an academically accredited Physiotherapy post-secondary program.
• Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support
• Ability to work independently in patient care areas with direct and indirect supervision from a health professional
• Ability to aid with activities of daily living, ROM, mobility, and orientation under the supervision of a regulated health professional
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and the ability to work as part of a team
• Knowledge of a safety culture in a health care setting in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
• Ability to apply effective body mechanics and lift and transfer skills to meet physical demands
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills
