Job description

Bear Creek Counselling and Psychology is a Christian private mental health counselling, psychotherapy, and trauma treatment agency in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Our staff each provide a variety of unique services using trauma-informed and evidence-based practices optionally integrated with spiritual perspectives. Each of our therapists is trained in trauma treatment. We are looking for an eager mental health therapist or clinical counsellor to begin and grow alongside a developing business.

Responsibilities

• Establish positive, trusting rapport with clients
• Diagnose and treat mental health illnesses and / or disorders
• Create individualized treatment plans according to client needs and circumstances
• Meet with clients regularly to provide counselling, treatment, and adjust treatment plans as necessary
• Conduct ongoing informal assessment of client progress
• Perform all duties within PIPEDA / HIPAA regulations
• Involve and advise family members when appropriate
• Consult with the client?s health care team (family doctor, psychiatrist, etc) when appropriate
• Refer clients to outside specialists or agencies when necessary
• Maintain thorough records of client meetings, consultations, and progress
• Follow all safety protocols and maintains client confidentiality
• Maintain own professional development through continuing education

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

• Master?s degree in psychology, social work, counselling, or related field with supervised clinical hours that include at least 200 hours of direct client contact
• Current with all provincial and / or federal licensing requirements, including CAP, CCPA, ACSW and / or others
• Current professional liability insurance
• Several years? clinical experience (advantageous)
• Experience or skill working with families and / or children (advantageous)

Our agency is open from 8 : 30 am to 5 : 00 pm Monday through Friday. Schedule specifics are open to negotiation for the right candidate including possible evening and / or weekend hours. Therapists are recommended not to exceed 25 client-hours per week so that there is ample time for professional activities such as notes, reports, assessments, and continuing education as well as providing flexibility for personal self-care. This position will begin with a part-time caseload of approximately 10 client-hours per week with the expectation of building to full-time (20-25 client-hours). After a three-month probationary period, the successful candidate will be eligible for health benefits. Our agency is closed during statutory holidays. Vacation time is paid out with each monthly paycheque. Wages are commission-based and based on level of education and experience.

Preference may be given to applications with training in an evidence-based trauma treatment, although trauma training may be provided to the right candidate.
