Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvements are inherent in this position.

Under the supervision of the Senior Audiologist, provides comprehensive audiological services including diagnostics and treatment to clients of all ages, with specialization in pediatric and special populations. Works cooperatively with professionals, agencies, and community groups in a multidisciplinary team to address hearing needs, following family-centred care principles. Provides consultation and educational services to professionals, community members, and families, and coordinates community-based programs to promote hearing and communication skills and community awareness. Supervises and teaches Audiometric Technicians.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Audiology.
  • Current licensure with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Audiologist.
  • Experience in community audiology, pediatric audiology, and fitting hearing aids and Assistive Listening Devices is an asset.
  • Travel is required; arrangements must meet program requirements.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Perform audiologic tests and interpret results.
  • Fit, evaluate, and monitor hearing aids and FM equipment.
  • Relate to children and special populations, engaging their cooperation.
  • Organize and coordinate own schedule, set priorities, and work independently.
  • Develop and implement audiology programs.
  • Supervise staff.
  • Conduct self-evaluations based on evidence-based practices.
  • Work within health promotion and family-centred care principles.
  • Collaborate effectively with staff and multidisciplinary teams in various settings.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate counseling skills.
  • Plan basic programs.
  • Possess physical ability and manual dexterity for duties.
  • Operate computers for clinical practices, including hearing aid programming.
