Job summary

Mount Royal University is seeking a Climbing Wall Monitor to supervise the MRU Climbing Centre, ensure user safety, and deliver a memorable customer experience. The role involves managing risk in top rope and lead climbing, belay techniques, and daily facility operations.

The position offers a flexible, variable schedule with hours per shift and up to 35 hours weekly; preference given to MRU students. Salary is paid hourly and includes opportunities to support inclusive recreation experiences.

Qualifications

• First Aid & CPR-C certification required; training available for new staff
• Competence in top rope and lead climbing risk management
• Belay techniques with ATC & GriGri familiarity (asset)

Responsibilities

• Greet and sign participants into the facility
• Conduct facility orientations and belay tests for top rope and lead climbing
• Sign out rental equipment and ensure it's returned
• Build authentic relationships with climbers to foster belonging
• Present waivers and confirm completion; address questions
• Oversee daily operations with safety policy adherence
• Provide coaching and corrective instruction on techniques
• Open/close facility and perform equipment checks
