Job summary

Métis Nation – Saskatchewan seeks a Climate Emergency Specialist to join the Lands and Environment team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The role develops procedures for an Emergency Response and Preparedness program and coordinates with MN-S ministries, communities, and leaders to ensure coordinated climate readiness and response.

Under the Climate Change Program Manager’s supervision, you will build partnerships, coordinate emergency packs and training, and help deliver nationally relevant

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years experience in delivery of programming related to safety, emergency response, emergency management, etc.
  • Volunteer experience in an emergency management role would also be considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of office procedures including budgetary and progress reporting, maintaining detailed records and document management.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that relates to the duties and responsibilities of this role may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Development of strategic emergency preparedness and response plans, which would include reactive and proactive plans in response to community emergencies.
  • Liaise with province, proponents, and other regulators on their response and preparedness programs and advocate for community supports.
  • Work on the development Emergency Response and Preparedness Program including development of programming for future funding years.
  • Coordinate the procurement and delivery of emergency packs/kits to MN-S Citizens as well as emergency equipment and supplies to communities (signage, training materials, etc.).
  • Participate in and support the delivery of Emergency Preparedness and Response Training.
  • Develop and set strategic professional and departmental goals and objectives in coordination with the Lands & Resources, Agriculture & Environment (LRAE) Team.
  • Prepare reports which may include monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on program delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Métis citizens, communities, and organizations.
  • Ensuring emergency preparedness policies and procedures are culturally safe, respectful, and appropriate.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as determined by the Director of LRAE, Climate Change Program Manager, Senior Management, and/or designate.
