Job summary

The Squamish Nation is seeking a Climate Action Specialist to support the Climate Legacy Strategy and advance community-driven climate initiatives across Squamish Territory. Reporting to the Climate Action Manager, this role blends climate policy, environmental stewardship, and project management to deliver outcomes for Squamish people and lands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Policy, Public Administration, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in climate action or related field.
• Experience with government agencies, environmental organizations, and community groups.
• Project or program management experience with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Salary Range: $66,689.00 To $93,364.00 Annually

The Squamish Nation is seeking a passionate and experienced Climate Action Specialist to support the implementation of the Nation's Climate Legacy Strategy and help advance community-driven climate action initiatives across Squamish Territory. Reporting to the Climate Action Manager, this role combines climate policy, environmental stewardship, community engagement, project management, and partnership development to help achieve the Nation's ambitious climate goals. What You’ll Do

Support implementation of the Climate Legacy Strategy and its goals by providing climate expertise and guidance to internal departments.

Lead climate-related projects and initiatives, including Climate Legacy Strategy objectives, community programs, and conservation-related targets.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with government partners, environmental organizations, consultants, and community stakeholders.

Coordinate community engagement activities, workshops, working groups, and public outreach initiatives to increase awareness of climate action priorities.

Research, prepare, and submit funding applications while identifying new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.

Manage community projects and engagement initiatives, ensuring successful delivery and stakeholder participation.

Review climate-related referrals and provide subject matter expertise to support informed decision-making.

Track, monitor, and report on Climate Legacy Strategy progress, outcomes, and key performance indicators.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Policy, Public Administration, or a related discipline.

Relevant certifications in project management, climate action, or sustainability are considered an asset.

Equivalent combinations of education and extensive related experience may be considered.

3–5 years of experience in climate action, environmental policy, sustainability programs, or a related field.

Experience working collaboratively with government agencies, environmental organizations, and community groups.

Project or program management experience, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results independently.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and research tools.

Strong understanding of climate policy, sustainability, and environmental frameworks.

Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.

Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Skilled at fostering relationships and facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is considered an asset.
