Job summary

Wesley in Hamilton, Ontario, is seeking a Part-Time Temporary Client Care Worker for the Special Care Unit. The role supports clients experiencing homelessness and acute alcohol dependency within a residential harm reduction framework.

Position offers 24 hours/week at a rate of $22.44/hour, with a rotating weekday and two weekend shifts (4pm–12am). Post-secondary social services education and two years’ relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Services, or an equivalent recognized by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and relevant past experience.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience serving marginalized populations and building rapport with the target group.
• Experience providing client-centered services within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Work within a strengths-based, client-centered approach to service delivery.
• Assist with engagements, assessments, case planning, and referrals to connect clients to resources.
• Administer medications and document distribution per program guidelines.
• Administer alcohol and document usage per program guidelines.
• Engage clients to assess readiness and ensure residential stability and safety.
• Participate in meal planning and food preparation per nutritional guidelines.
• Document information in client files and program logs.
• Respond to emergencies or crises per program protocols.
• Interact with internal and external service providers as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and training; provide shift coverage when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Client Care Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.

Within a multi-disciplinary team, you will actively provide support and therapeutic services to individuals experiencing homelessness and living with acute alcohol dependency and related health and mental health issues. Services are based on a residential harm reduction approach to service delivery.

This position is a Part -Time Temporary Client Care Worker. The rate of pay is $22.44. Hours per week are 24. The schedule consists of 1 rotating weekday and 2 weekend shifts 4pm-12am.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Work effectively within a strengths-based client-centered approach to service delivery.
2. Assist with program engagements, assessments, case planning, and appropriate referrals of clients to facilitate client movement through the program and connection to community resources.
3. Administer medications and appropriately document distribution, according to the established guidelines of the program.
4. Administer alcohol and appropriately document, according to the established guidelines of the program.
5. Actively engage individual clients to assess their readiness, motivation and confidence to move through change, ensure residential stability and safety within the program.
6. Participate in meal planning and preparation (menus) consistent with nutritional guidelines, maintenance of food supplies and all other program supplies including bottling of beer, making and purchasing of wine; within the social and recreational goals of a residential managed alcohol program of 15 or more residents.
7. Document and input information, in individual client files and all program communication logs and information sheets, manually and in the Client Outcome Tracking System.
8. Respond according to program protocols to emergency or crisis situation.
9. When appropriate and required, interact with internal and external service providers.
10. Attend and participate in all relevant staff meetings and training opportunities, as requested.
11. Provide coverage for other employees on shift, as required.
12. Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Services, or an equivalent recognized by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and relevant past experience.
2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience, effectively working with marginalized populations experiencing homelessness and a demonstrated ability to form rapport with target population.
3. Experience providing client-centered services within a multi-disciplinary team of providers.
4. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
5. Must be willing to work flexible hours.
6. Non-violent crisis intervention - first aid/CPR certification.
