Front End Second - Sobeys New Glasgow (Westside)

Responsible for supporting the front end manager in the overall operation of the front end department, including providing management and leadership to Front End staff. Ensure operational excellence in retail merchandising, inventory management, and customer relations. Work closely with the Front End Manager to coach and develop the team to provide superior customer service and shopping experiences, tailored to the local market while achieving budgeted financial results. Actively contribute to an environment of employee and customer engagement.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
People Leadership
  • Create a coaching and development culture for all department employees, embracing a passion for food.
  • Manage department personnel, including scheduling, recruitment, performance management, and training.
  • Communicate operational requirements and changes to front-end department employees.
Customer Offering
  • Create an engaging shopping experience that enhances loyalty, sales, and profit.
  • Provide excellent customer service to meet customer needs.
  • Merchandise front end racks and fixtures, and manage product ordering.
  • Order and maintain inventory.
  • Process and resolve customer concerns and requests.
  • Execute winning conditions and SMART initiatives.
Policy/Regulatory Adherence
  • Ensure all applicable policies and procedures are communicated and followed.
  • Maintain compliance with OH&S, Food Safety, and other regulatory requirements.
Financial
  • Perform departmental administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure efficient operation of the department to meet financial targets and KPIs.
  • Balance cash according to company policies.
  • Perform negative tracking procedures via Navistor and correct discrepancies.
  • Manage payroll functions.
Personal/Professional Development
  • Understand relevant company programs and attend necessary training.
  • Stay informed on current industry trends.
Employee Engagement
  • Support an environment of employee engagement and be recognized as an employer of choice.
Other Duties
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of department equipment.
  • Provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the company.
What you have to offer:
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Full knowledge of department operations and skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of total store operations.
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in the front-end department.
