Job summary

Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) seeks a Clerk for the Emergency Department to provide comprehensive clerical support and patient data management. The role includes registration, order entry, data audits and maintaining confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Successful candidates will have a Medical Office Support Certification or equivalent, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and strong communication skills.

Position: Clerk - 4, Emergency Department: AC Emergency Position Status: Temporary (Fixed Term) Time Type: Full time Temporary Contract End Date: 2027-10-04 Union: OPSEU CLERICAL 345 (Ontario Public Service Employees Union Clerical 345) Location: Peterborough, ON Language: English Salary: $30.66 - $32.90 per hour

HOURS OF WORK

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation. Approximate # of hours: 37.5 hours Type of Shifts: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends & Holidays

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Provides support to the Emergency Department team, working in all areas of the department to assist and coordinate unit functions allowing clinical staff to provide direct patient care. Clerical staff perform many functions in the department including registration, order entry, data audits and review, etc.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Successful completion of a Medical Office Support Staff Certification, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Previous Ward Clerk experience preferred.

WHO YOU ARE
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of the Microsoft office suite and good computer skills
  • Demonstrated customer focused/driven attitude and positive customer philosophy
  • Accurate keyboarding skills (40 wpm)
  • Able to use standard office equipment including a computer, laser printer, label printer, fax machine, multifunction photocopier, calculator, and telephone. (Option to add other department specific equipment to the list)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and follow current privacy regulations.
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, with patients/families, staff and physicians and the community
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and use good judgement when making decisions
  • Demonstrated good team work skills and ability to work collaboratively and promote a positive attitude within the team
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and time management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with precision and accuracy with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated patience and flexibility to support multiple client demands
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting an inclusive, non-judgmental workplace, welcoming all people of all backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi‑task when facing multiple demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain good attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to remain calm during emergency situations and carefully follow code procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to complete work accurately and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Experience with Epic and Critical systems considered an asset
